Yep, I'm in three different zones. I'm even more confused than you!!!

I planted 3 of the coldhardy ones last fall, I am in zone 5, but I am not sure how they over wintered.
Not trying to cut in on you, forget -me-not, but does anyone know when they start to show signs of life after a cold winter? I am in central Mo.
I have a couple of Ka-Blueys ordered to plant this spring, I wanted them last fall, but they were out of stock when I tried to get them.

I think they call us zone 5 - I am in central Mo..near our capitol city(near Jefferson City)
Our zone classification generally tell us what can and cannot be grown in our area because of heat or cold.
We cannot grow things that thrive in Fla, etc, because of cold winters

Blueberries do very well in containers, especially if your soil conditions are less than ideal. For the media, I use equal parts pine bark, peat moss, and potting soil, then throw in a handful of sulfur to lower the pH. I also fertilize with Miracid or similar acid-loving food. I am currently growing Duke, Bluecrop, and Elliot-an early, mid-, and late season, respectively and they are doing well.

A follow-up on our blue berries. All my blueberries are doing great. The ones planted in the fall are blooming, all are looking good. Neighbor just gave us chicken house cleanings in pine shavings. Someone said that wouldbe good on there, someone else mentioned pine shavings in here, so if the chicken poo should be ok to use.

We live in zone 5. we tried growing blueberries they lived for the first year or two but then they all died in a frost. So watch for frosts!!

With respect to confusing zones:

Don't look at the map itself. Instead, look at the temperature key on the side of the map--that is the minimum temperature all year for that zone. Then, go to WeatherUnderground.com and look up your actual minimum temperatures in winter for the last 3-5 years. Chances are, it will be different, at least a little, from what the map thinks it should be. Then you can reckon what your actual zone might be.

I see blueberries for sale at all the nurseries around here. With our alkaline soil, year round warm temps and Santa Anas they aren't exactly impossible to grow here but darn close. If you got a shot glass full of berries from each bush you'd be doing good.
I'm constantly amazed that local people still buy them. San Diego probably has more plants that do well here than any other place in the US. Why insist on trying to grow a plant that doesn't like us?
