I did not get sprouts on my Brussels Sprouts for the last few seasons, after many successful years. They need a bit of Boron if this happens to you. It is an organic amendment and is very potent so you must take care in amending you soil. I use a tiny sprinkle near each plant., working it into the soil. Having a busy fall I did not think to check my Sprouts until yesterday. I always plant a variety of seed that I start in my greenhouse. I find when 1 variety of any kind of plant has a bad year, usually at least one of your choices will produce. Well my sprouts said thanks for the Boron. I am harvesting, and eating, and then blanching and freezing the extra. I will have enough for family and the entire winter. They can be left on the stalk well through frost. They are way bigger than they look in the photo.

We had shaved brussel sprout salad last night with dinner. It was really good.

Thanks for the Boron tip, many dont know about it.👍 Boron (B in the periodic table) is essential for plant growth and development. However boron is not included in most minor element plant nutritional sprays, so most people don't know about it and it's importance.

Recipe

Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad

Servings: 6-8

Description: A delicious and refreshing salad featuring shaved Brussels sprouts, crunchy textures, and a tangy dressing.

Ingredients:

  • 1-1.5 pounds fresh Brussels sprouts
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup small-diced red onion
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup crumbled Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup dried cranberries, or other toppings of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Shave the Brussels sprouts: Rinse and pat dry the Brussels sprouts. Trim off the stems and remove any wilted leaves. Shave the sprouts using a food processor with the slicing attachment or a mandoline. You can also use a sharp knife to shave them thinly.
  2. Prepare the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together lemon juice, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
  3. Combine the salad ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the shaved Brussels sprouts, chopped walnuts, and small-diced red onion.
  4. Add the dressing: Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Optional toppings: If using, sprinkle Parmesan cheese, dried cranberries, or other toppings over the salad and toss gently.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

Tips:

  • Use fresh and high-quality ingredients for the best flavor and texture.
  • Adjust the amount of dressing to your taste.
  • Consider adding other toppings such as diced apples, pomegranate seeds, or crumbled goat cheese to suit your preferences.
  • This salad is perfect for a light and refreshing side dish or a healthy lunch.
