While I was kinda casting about looking for custard pie recipes, you know - trying to keep @Carol Dee happy :), I came across the oddest thing.

It isn't just butterbeans; some people use navy beans! Pureed and all ...

This should be something our bean aficionados would have an interest in. And, it reminds me of the adzuki and mung beans in Asian desserts, even that sweet congee you find in a can at Asian grocery stores. However, in a custard and a pie crust ...

Do know anything about bean pie??

It looks ugly, but interesting. After a brief search, I think I would try the Muslim Navy Bean pie recipe. It had 3/4 c. sugar to 2 c. beans. Many of the other recipes had 2 or more cups of sugar for an equal amount of beans, which seems like overkill.
I love sweets, but I definitely like the other flavors in a recipe to come through.

Yes, the 4-& a half star recipe on allrecipeDOTcom look like it's 88.8% sugar!

I'm already on to Pinto Bean Pie. I'd never have though of such a thing! Here's a recipe from cooks.com (link) but they gotta whole page of them.

Maybe with some chopped olives, shredded cheese, and salsa sauce ...

The egg can be in the cornbread crust ...

I don't suppose it would hurt to start with the filling on the crust, then pour something like the quiche mix over the beans and meat, top with cheese.

Oh my! Just look at these! Tamales Tarts (link)

Bean pie, one of my favourite desserts. In every weekend, I visit the dessert restaurant and enjoy delicious cakes, brownies and bean pie.
