Maybe Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a free floating aquatic plant. Invasive in some zones not here they always die every winter . Mostly bc the water freezes .

Yes, it's hard to keep alive over winter. Needs high light, decent water temp and many hours of light each day. Plus some fertilizer. Last year, they grew new sections, rotting the old, into practically mini versions of itself. 1in leaves vs 3-6in+ when outside. More light would keep them larger.

@secuono I agree..I have a hard time keeping some water plants to over winter once removed from the outside pond. It was way too much of an effort to keep the water plants alive inside over the winters. No matter what… they turn to mush.
The pond plants that over winter outside well thru freeze and ice are very hardy. The hardy water lilies has been a keeper and flowers every year. Sedge grass over winter well in a floating bed in the pond and need I mention hardy iris that explode in the pond and can take over in a short time if not separated .
I am lazy and order hyacinth when water temps warm up in early summer. I like the color they add & by the end of summer . By the time temps fall they had grown so fast they are climbing out the sides of the small pond. Always a nice reward seeing that amazing growth in my zone. Soon they will be muck usually by mid November I pull them out to the compost pile. The way I see it what other plant can grow and spread so fast I definitely feel like I get my money’s worth especially since very little effort to get them to grow other than tossing them in the pond and they fill the area . That’s the pay off why I order water plants yearly.

Repotted, with more dirt, not new pot, the asparagus ferns. The original either fully died and 2 seeds grew anew, or the original mostly died back and regrew. Idk which. Tried to get most of the old and dead out.


Back in their spots. Idk why one is dark green and the other is always more of a neon green.
