There are fads in reporting of pollution.
The media reporters are lazy. It's easy to let someone else do your research for you and then jump on the band wagon. The trouble with that is if the first reporter is wrong thereis a lot of false information getting passed along.
I remember a few years back there was a big deal about ocean pollution causing swordfish to have a lot of mercury in it. A scientist finally got around to testing some samples that had been kept since the early 1930s. It had about the same level of mercury as modern samples.

Hoodat, trust in that I believe pollution is a huge issue. I just happen to think John Q citizen is the largest problem. But it's never ME, it's you or Ag or businesses. What I do is reasonable.

One of the greatest dangers to the ocean is the huge amount of plastic products drifting around in it. There are patches of mostly plastic trash miles wide in places. That is not caused by big business. It's caused by people who toss plastic trash into rivers and oceans thinking their own trash is too small a volume to do any harm. When enough people act like that it becomes a huge problem.

I took a look at the back of a box of Tide today and it says they don't put phosphates in it anymore. All the rest is supposed to be biodegradable. So I guess the farmer's wife has been exonerated. :p

N-P-K of typical homebrew compost is 0.5-0.27-0.81, which is really low on all counts. Adds humus to the soil more than anything. Here's a reputable article for reference... http://greenliving.nationalgeographic.com/composting-nitrogen-phosphorus-20305.html

Thanks for info on Tide.

On the rest, it's late so I'll get back to that later.
