Hey great to hear you are getting the Roses.
I know nothing about them so I can't help you.

But from what I read it is more then one plant. Did he get rid of the others? Sounds like you will have a few of them!

Good luck! Dig careful.

Ok. I set up a time to go get it tomarrow morning. Can some one tell me more about training?

LIke is it with green beans that have the trellis things that magically attach top stuff? Or will I need to tie it into place?

And so then with you climer, ron, you don't do much prunning so that it can continue to grow and cover your arbor? That would mean that it grows on old wood?

Ok Thanks I so excited....
Hi, I think what you asking me is, if you want to cover a large area is it necessary to prune? Is this right?

The answer is exactly. You do not prune unless it is a branch that is not going according to the way you want it to. I usually let a cane grow about 4-5 feet outward a bit, and then I place it where I want it and use a tie or a copper wire attached to the wood with a screw. The new shoots are very supple so they bend easily. If they are left to season a bit they harden up, so don't let those shoots (4-5 ft long) sit too long before you work them.

Ron

Ps CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :woot

Spraying?

Spraying for what? Before you ever 'Spray' anything, always have a reason, and always consider the bees before you consider anything else!

If there are aphids, then use the hose and spray them off...if you get an infestation it is likely because the rose is stressed, but this is not the time of year that you will have any troubles with them.

If you see any mealy bugs then I would use a small paint brush and dab them with a touch of rubbing alcohol.

If there is a blackspot then a fungicide might be needed. Remove any dead or dying leaves so as not to re-infest your plant.

If there is mildew (white powdery stuff) try a bit of diluted milk! Or, again, a fungicide.

I would not even fertilize right now! This bush will not need anything until Spring. Then if you decide to fertilize (in the Spring) I would recommend a systemic feeder with a pesticide additive (this will be safe with bees).

Some folks like to treat their roses with Epsom salts, I do too, I use this twice a year, and I find that it stimulates lower branch growth, brighter blooms, and a healthier overall performance.

Don't worry! I can tell you are worrying! LOL Don't! Take a breath and realize that a rose is a tough thing. You will be fine! :clap

Be sure and water through the winter accordingly! A rose never really goes dormant, it will just suspend and Winter is the time for Root Growth. Most plants (not annuals) spend the Winter months growing roots, so be sure and water! I think some folks forget this and once winter comes they think everything is asleep and nothing needs to be watered. Water based on the need though, if you get precipitation like rain or snow, then you don't have to. If you find a week goes by and no rain or snow, then dip into the soil and see if it is drying. I usually can tell by the way the soil clumps when I squeeze it.

Remember, ....Don't worry! ... Be Happy! LOL :bun

I am so so tired. I got up at six and traveled an hour and dug up a rose bush. Here it is. I cut it down by half like Ron said and watered it with a Root stimulator and Starter Solution by Green Light. I got that at Lowe's. I put it in the front of my house where the Mexican petunia was doing horribly. I dug a hole and put Houmas and top soil from Lowes. I didn't use any fertilizer. And they also had these little Mums that were dying or 0.20 cents each and I bought a few of them to look pretty around the bush. My intention is to train it around the windows and then.... I got nothing.

I got 6 little cups of cuttings that I planted some of the trimmings in I put like 4-5 cuttings in each in hopes they will grow. I watered them also with the Root stimulator stuff. And I put a bag over them. So I am happy. I hope they will be happy as well.

I also planted my little fig tree. I was tired of the dogs eating the leaves. Behind it and to the side I am going to plant more Mexican Petunia (thanks Ron). But won't be till spring..

Thanks for the encouragement....
