For those who live further out in the country (where they are more common) I was wondering if you could answer a question for me.

As preparation for a trip today, I was doing a search for bead stores around me, and, surprisingly, one of the places that popped up was Wal-Mart. Do Wal-Marts actually have a jewelry and crafts section? (it wouldn't surprise me if they did, since they seem to try and cover everything, but even so, I wouldn't have expected it.)

Yes, Walmarts do have a craft department and they have beads too.

The joys of country living. It’s 45 minutes and 40 miles away. LOL

There’s one in Lufkin, 25 miles and 35 minutes away. I go to Lufkin twice a week for PT, I’ll check it out.

Pretty much every library has an online lending option. Once you have a card you can read online or on an app like Libby. It’s great for if you live a long way from the library. They usually have options where you can change the font size and type if you have trouble seeing in a screen. The usually will have audiobooks and tv shows/movies on there too.

I just learned that there is a shopgoodwill dot com. They have a craft section.

Should be buying a new (usable) cane. Thrift stores are a good place to find them. I'm a little persnickety about them, as you might imagine. I've done a little modifying at home but the last time I tried to fix a loose handle it didn't work out so well. Not a fan of adjustable metal ones ... Not after Dad had one and he was clickity clackity going everywhere with .

Looks like I will need to shop in-store, however. Buy 4 for $50? Why would I need 4 canes? Be like a platoon.

i need a belt. can't find my other one. losing weight means my pants are falling off too much now. what was worse the other day is that i had my undies migrate down while my pants stayed up. i was up on the ladder too. good thing it didn't tangle anything critical i could have been in trouble!

these are things i only tell Mom and friends on the internet. don't want the whole world to know about this...

all in good fun, i don't take myself too seriously as long as i can get a good laugh out of it i'm game.

As for the bead thing, it looks like it actually MIGHT be in my interest to check one out should I be near it (according to my map, the nearest to me I could actually find is Mohegan Lake). Not only does it seem to have a section more or less equal to Michael's of Jo-Ann's (actually a lot better than Jo-Ann's now) but, more importantly (from my POV) it looks like it has a supplier who still DOES offer a mixed box of Indian glass beads, which is where I have the best chance of finding something I might actually be able to use (I tend to use as little modern Chinese glass as I can in my work due to generally not liking the designs (I tend to find them soulless and lacking in pride of creation.) and because the sheer glut they tend to put out (there are bead types they haven't made since 2003 that are STILL the dominant type of beads you will find if you go shopping on any platform, THAT'S how many they tend to make.) makes it hard to make anything saleable (since it's pretty easy for someone to take a look at whatever I created, go to the craft store, and buy all the materials they need to make a copy for themselves.)

I'll look at the goodwill site. Even if I don't find anything I can buy, it might give me a good outlet for dealing with the 2-300 POUNDS of leftover mixed beads I have lying around from all of the mixes I DID buy over the years (I'd sell them off by the pound on eBay or Etsy, but not only would I not get much in terms of money, I'd get a TON of agita in the process (people asking me to sort through the whole mass to find a duplicate of a bead they saw in the picture, people complaining because one bead in the many hundreds they bought has a chip, or a crack, or is just a little misshapen, people grousing that such a cheap item has so much of shipping cost, and demanding I make the shipping free etc.)

i had a friend who made her own glass beads and jewelry (i'm not sure what she is doing now, it's been years since we've talked) and i heard enough stories from her about on-line retail that i'd not likely do very good at that sort of thing at all.

in general i've always been very leery of turning a hobby into a business - i think it can take the fun out of it - if you're not careful...

Then you must be aware of Fire Mountain Gems in Grants Pass OR. My mother used to order from them, and she and I went on a tour of their facilities.
