Snow here as well – looks about the same as yesterday however since then we had so much frost and this morning, so little snow. Local teevee guy says the least snow this year than in any over the last 10 years. He did reassure us some by saying that our November rain stays as higher elevation snow pack. Hope so.

Reading @baymule 's comment on the ethnic diet thread prompted a little reading in Nature and Smithsonian websites about DNA and the Neanderthals :). Of course, I have relatives now who have had those DNA tests and were excited to share the results. Keep somethings in mind, we would have to be identical twins for the genes to be the same. Also, that only 50% was passed down from each parent. What was left behind? generations generations generations you .. Also, what fraction is being tested at these labs and how narrow have they squeezed the gene pool in various locations to draw comparisons for locations in the world? Mobility !

Nature reported the first Neanderthal sequencing in 2006. That was an extremely limited analysis then. Until 4 years ago, no evidence was found for Neanderthal genetics in Africa. Now, that has changed and provided some evidence also that "modern" humans migrated out and back to that continent earlier and perhaps before taking up more permanent residence in Europe and Asia 🔃.

Coffee anyone?

Hang out at lower elevations but move on soon if you have travel plans ;). Rain here also, @baymule . Warmest morning in weeks. Snow as soon as one moves into Rockies but melting, maybe staying around until Spring above 3,000 feet and, certainly, if going higher. Just below freezing in Cascade passes with a week of snow ahead.

Good thing I drank my 1st cup early. Trying to finish the 2nd cup I had a severe nauseous reaction to Tylonel!
Amongst my medications is medicine for nausea that I haven't really used.
It worked.
Good thing...I would like to drink my coffee tomorrow...with Raisin Bran...like today.

Cooked up half of a big winter squash in the microwave for breakfast again. With a dash of salt and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top it is quite very tasty. Oddly, not only am I enjoying squash for breakfast-- but I almost prefer it to toast or cereal.

This variety may be a Lower Salmon River squash, but I didn't keep the tag with it so I'm not one hundred percent sure about that. The seeds were gorgeous so I saved them. If they sprout well the could be an interesting choice as a cover crop on our neighbours slope next summer.

You have been buying Snake River Seed Coop seed, @Branching Out ?

Oddly, I have not. I have looked at their seed racks each Spring for the last several years. Always the same responses from Steve, "Well, that doesn't look familiar. No, not familiar ... not familiar ... not familiar."

I guess it's only been a few years — maybe I'll get with it. So normal for me to always be risk-averse and dodging around chances of failure.
