Whatever you are in need of for your rise and shine it's the beginning of the weekend hug in a mug cup is right next to the coffee pot so grab a cup then join me on the patio in the 55 morning air which is only tiny morsel taste of Autumn.
If y'all are in the Central Va area this weekend, "Field Days of the Past" is going on in Amelia Court House Va. There's rides, vendors, exhibits, FOOD and DRINKS too! It begins today and runs until Sunday.

Back to the distant garden garden today to pick beans and a few other things and run sprinklers.

There is mowing to do. One indication that the garden has been receiving a minimum of irrigation is the difference in a week's growth of lawn grass on the perimeter. Okay, when I rotate the sprinklers from one side to the other, I'm making an effort not to water the neighboring lawn. Wind can make a difference.

Growth is hardly noticeable until I reach where automatic sprinklers appear to be running every other night. There is none of the garden's water on that grass but it's only that the little mower is set so high that saves me from bogging down. It's a blessing that "appearance" is the only consideration on these broad lawns since I am the only one walking on this grass.

I'm concerned about the north of the garden. Three property owners and acres of ground with no attention for years. One match ... nearby is a small field completely surrounded by pine trees. Of course, there are three large garages backed up to this land and, in the distance, I see other neglected ground, buildings and parked vehicles. These folks look to be relying a good deal on fire insurance. Hopefully, the firetrucks don't drive right over the garden but I don't know how else they might arrive there.

Drinking coffee and almost noon. LOL Talking in text with DD who has all kinds of plans for a garden next year. She is asking about manure and how to plant garlic. She is busy. I found a tomato plant that came up from last year's seed and it has flowers on it. I am not sure if there is enough time for it to produce a tomato. I am doing some garden cleanup and we also had 2 cords of wood delivered. I heard it is going to be a cold and wet winter. I am hoping the leaves fall before it snows.

I'm spoiled by my DH. He makes coffee for me every morning and it's always amazing. Since 2020 he has been working from home so I've had delicious coffee each morning for over 3 years. He is going to back to the office now and I had to make my own coffee this morning. It was sad. I poured it back in the water holding part of the coffee maker and re brewed it. It was OK. I'm going to make him get it all set up at night so I can just press the brew button.
So a question.

If you make coffee by the pot, what are your water to granule ratio? I like medium strong coffee that when I add my soy milk, still has darker color than milk chocolate.

I hand grind my coffee every morning and I think it's about an eighth cup of grinds? Not sure because my grinder just has a mark on it for one cup. Water wise I probably use about 1.5 cups. Then I add oat or almond milk and enjoy!

I have almond milk in the fridge every day. (You know, I actually prefer soymilk in coffee.) I tried rice milk once – insipid, IMO. I've never used oat milk.

My electric grinders are worn out ...

@Gardening with Rabbits , my one volunteer (in a good place and is the only one of 3, I think it is, with green fruit) is obviously a Porters. Those are listed as an 80 day tomato. They are supposed to be well adapted to Texas and, for an 80 day, always ripen and do well for me. That they look like a paste is misleading. They would probably fit in as an heirloom saladette. It would surprise me if I have ripe fruit from it as a volunteer, however.

You know, Mary,

I had an errand to run this morning and it was a little late before I was heading out. At the door, I thought - "wouldn't it be pleasant if I took a cup of coffee?" It took me just a couple of minutes to heat my "travel mug," pour the coffee, and about an hour to finish and arrive back home. The coffee lasted about half that time, I drank all while sitting behind the steering wheel.

All you need for your "I'm awake and moving" drink is next to the coffee pot, brew a cup then let's meet on the patio and admire the day break that's slowly appearing.
I apologize for not checking on here yesterday, FH and a co-worker had to work yesterday so I went for the ride. Once FH and I got home yesterday we got some much needed yardwork accomplished.
Tonight's dinner is going to be SMOKED Boston Butt, SMOKED Mac & Cheese, "Apple Pie" Baked Beans and maybe just maybe Cornbread muffins.

Thanks for the coffee! On my second cup. Church this morning, then I’ll go to Lufkin for dog food and a few groceries.
The grass is all dewy and wet. It’s rubber boot season. I may have to get some new ones, I think one of mine has a hole in it. I lived in them last winter. Here we go again!
