Back to gardening on this NON gardening thread...
"Earthworms are native to the United States, says Melissa McCormick, ecologist at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, but the earthworms in some northern parts of the country (including Vermont) aren’t indigenous."
" Thousands of years ago, glaciers that covered North America and reached as far south as present-day Illinois, Indiana and Ohio wiped out native earthworms. Species from Europe and Asia, most likely introduced unintentionally in ship ballast or the roots of imported plants, have spread throughout North America."
I believe that this introduced species is NOT harmful.

...worms reintroduced after glaciers...
I believe that this introduced species is NOT harmful.

unfortunately this is not true. some plant species (i think the trillium is one of them) in northern woodlands are adapted to more leaf cover and putting worms back into those woods means those plants don't do as well.

Breakfast. The first load of laundry is in the washer. Garbage went out, mostly because DW stuffs whatever in the first available trash container and it hardly makes sense to then move it around the house to one of the other cans.

First breakfast is unimaginative Grape Nuts with raisins and a bowl of applesauce. Yesterday, Corn Flakes with raisins and applesauce. Tomorrow, what? Maybe Raisin Bran with applesauce? I'm okay. Instead of tossing them in the cereal, thought of putting the raisins in the applesauce ...

Pain continues in the knee but I'm also continuing to be fairly active and sleep without pain killer. Sleep is important and a little surprising since I can't lie on the bad left leg for long and the newly bad right leg is a worse problem. DW says that I'm not snoring lying on my back.

On to 2nd load and drier but back to herbal tea in the lazyboy. May fall asleep again. This would probably be a good time. It is completely dark outdoors. And, I'm both comfortable and ss sore ... snooore

I am not sure I had coffee this morning. Daughter-in-law made it and it looked more like chocolate. I was kind of sleepy all day, so I made some later in the day and then kind of had heartburn. I never get heartburn, but was not sleepy. lol

I have all my plants out in the greenhouse. We had really warm weather yesterday and DD and the kids and I wore ourselves out. DD and I rearranged her garage and we walked around the yard looking to see what is coming up. The kids rode bikes and ran all over the place. We were all tired today. DD is 35 weeks now and doing great.

We got to 71 today and we are supposed to have a thunderstorm with wind tonight. I hope my plastic greenhouse stays in place now that i decided to take everything outside.

Hash browns and a fried egg, I will call it coddled but it's just fried sunnyside up then microwaved on the warm potatoes until the yolk was just right. Strawberries on the side. Oolong.

Late 1st breakfast, I was up 3 hours after going to bed – too much pain in the hip. Took Tylenol for the 1st time and slept in until 6. I'm gonna say that the knee injury, if it was an injury, aggravated the arthritis. The knee no longer hurts to a casual touch. Not so with the hip. I may try the methyl salicylate oil but suspect that it will take more than the little-dab-will-do-ya for wrist or knee. Aspercreme? Been decades. I will try the Salonpas. On to herbal tea :).

Covering the hoops didn't happen — I forgot about taking DW to a Dr appointment 🙄. Wind gusts to 30 mph this morning. Oh well, no transplants hurting to get in there.

I asked what kind of coffee they made this morning and it is called Draft Mule. I am going to have to go make a pot of coffee later. This is like drinking flavored water. I think she likes weak coffee.

We had thunder and lightening around 2 this morning, but we did not get any rain. It is 49 right n ow and might get to 59. I am going to bring the peppers and tomatoes back in and take them out when we have sun. All of next week looks cloudy and cool. I started more tomato and pepper seeds because I am not sure how these are going to turn out. I think I started these too early.

A tiny bit late for first breakfast. Providing sufficient time for the herbal tea to steep, I tottered into the kitchen at 4 and learned that I had forgotten to mix a new batch of herbs despite recognizing the absolute need yesterday. Bring out the bags and cover one end of the kitchen table with wax paper so as to control sprinkles of this and that. Sure, I could have just done 1 level teaspoon of each but it didn't take very long to refill the empty jar. Should be about ready by now ...

Banana pancakes, strawberries, orange slices, honeydew melon (Guatemala ;)) with the oolong. Ah yes, the herbal is a little weak but probably a strength that some would prefer. Small amount here in the cup – may have enuf to gain some comfort time in the lazyboy before the need to pour some more from the kettle.

Covered the hoops and the 2 garden beds with plastic film yesterday. Hadn't really planned to do that with an errand to run in the AM and risky weather but the chance of rain hours passed with none and the wind calmed during that time with big clouds drifting away.

There was the usual struggle to straighten the film, boards, bricks and rocks to haul around to secure it to the ground, baling twine crisscrossing the top ... Only 1 piece of lathe tacked down on the door frame, neither door nor window hung but with the film to the ground on all 4 sides, it was very warm in there the minute I ventured inside before calling it a day.

Nothing from the greenhouse needs to be moved to the hoop house for a few days. It's actually supposed to rain and, maybe even snow, after this sunny Sunday. It's just below freezing at 6 AM and only 41⁰f (5⁰C) in the unheated greenhouse so nothing much would benefit from being in the hoop house. I will be moving tomato seedlings into a flat today and bringing them back into the house to their South Window nursery. Right now, herbal tea in the cup ... :)

I made banana pancakes for breakfast as well! I made some link sausages on the side and some homemade orange julius drinks to go with this!
