hehehehehehe come back and bit her again, when i came in monday g/m told not to order the collars till the first of the month per the owner, okay..

this morning the collar on the i-500 ripped apart..<the one that was upgraded> called quincy in charlotte with the part number, yup we have one..
went and looked at the drivers route sheet...great we have a driver going in the general area, called the g/m at our charlotte location he would be glad to pick up the part. called the driver he was at his last stop, asked if he would drive to charlotte store and relay it to me...a little crying but he would do it....

when my g/m showed up told her what was wrong and what i did,,,she looked at me and said, who told you to do all this... i took it upon myself because i know how you would have wanted to handle this,no shipping ,no service tech to install it and charge us a arm and a leg, it will be here in about an hour and we will be running on the good compressor about 30 mins....

could see her mind looking for a reason to chew me out.. all that she could say.... okay with a little grrr

so fast forward to this afternoon, the owner and g/m were in the back conference room when i dropped off the invoice. the owner asked how i was doing on the lights told him that was unable to install any....why

explained that that collar ripped among the rest of the days problems, he looked at me and said.. didnt i ask for you to order collars for both machines monday?
yes sir you did, but monday once she got in was told not to order them till the first per you...

oh once that was said a very very unhappy look came across his face with a 1000 yd stare at her ...i was asked to leave.. all i could hear on the way out was.
im not going to order parts the last week of the month that could sit on a shelf..... would have loved to hear the rest...

she called me on the way home and was told to order spares in the morning and put those f'ing parts on the shelf and hung up.....

someone mention i need to watch my back around her....i do my job i will not lie for anyone, if she wants to be a witch go ahead i keep a maintenance log/journal with times and dates of what i do on a sd chips here at home..

my last job, i didn't know that i needed to do things like that with the new manager until it was pretty much too late. it was a low pay part-time job i was doing for fun and it become no fun at all so eventually i quit. but i miss the customers... ah well.

good luck with the new parts. :) and the sd chips and ...

I hear you on that. I worked as purchaser for a garbage company. I ordered what the mechanics needed and got chewed for it. They didn't have enough bolts to do a repair one day, so I asked them what was needed and they told me. I ordered $1500 of bolts in different sizes, but it was the owner who blew up. I asked him if he wanted a half million dollar truck down over a $5 bolt and offered to send them all back. He just looked at me funny. LOL

I've been thinking of your job that you had in Muffreezeboro (sp?). I was not familiar with that name/town until you mentioned it this year.

I'm reading a novel that is set back during the Civil War in TN, based upon a true story. It mentions Muffreesboro alot!

I feel your pain Major, Around here I have my own parts department right next door to my shop, their job is to make sure I have 2 of every part I need.....yea right. If the owner ever talks to you about SAP, run for the hills, that inventory parts system sucks!
I'm on my 3rd parts inventory software system in 5 years, and my 3rd parts room manager.

I run 3 - 60 hp Kaiser, rotary turbine air compressors, they do have their gremlins, but for 8 years now they have been one of the better compressors I have worked with.

Sounds like you guys use a lot of air, do you have a good size air receiver? I used to have low air issues, installed a 100 gallon receiver, problem went away.

@Lickbranchfarm spare parts what's that? from 2004 to 2008 i had all the major parts to all the equipment, anything that could stop production i had locked up in a huge cabinet all labeled to what they went too, 2008 and 2012 we switched retread companies,since 2008 we have 2 of each equipment 2 buffers,2 extruders 2 builder..etc. their train of thought is, if one goes down no need to keep spare parts,we can keep producing can have the replacement part here tomorrow... parts come from petersburg va so it's next day...... but i do squirrel in some major parts when i make a order...

yes you are right about gremlins, think they are built into every piece of equipment at the factory... kaiser does make a good compressor!! as for air dryers their pretty much the same all made by spx.

when we bought the building back in 2004 it came with a 1994 quincy i-1000 200hp @125psi and we brought over a ir 75 hp @135 psi compressor from the old shop, that was a great compressor straightforward machine easy to work on. 04 to 08 we only had 2 chambers.in 08 we went to 4 chambers and double equipment, between the 2 compressors they could not produce enough air.
thats when we purchased a quincy i-500 125 hp @140psi

the i-500 is our main compressor, once the building pressure drops below 120 psi the i-1000 kicks in and keeps us at 125 psi till not needed<noisy cus>dang external blowdown

as for air usage we go through a lot from grinders to expandable hubs to lifts.etc, the biggest usage is the 4 autoclaves<chambers>

each one uses 3965 gallons of air @85psi at the start of each cycle each one has a 1" air line... if you start 2 chambers at once it sucks the whole building down in the 10 minutes that it takes to fill each one.
as for receivers tanks we have 2 750 gallon,1 1000 gallon 1 1500 gallon, then on top of that theres a 8" pipe that loops the retread shop and a 6" pipe that loops the warehouse that has 4", 3",2" lines that run the length of it< the old owners use to build electric dc motors> so with all the loops and runs figure another 1000 gallons.. would love to have a couple more 1500 gallon receiver tanks.....

we are fortunate to have a couple industrial parts houses locally and a couple 30 mins away then there's my favorite grainger

I was in a crossroads little town 75 miles from Houston. Sometimes a truck went down on route, the mechanic went out, diagnosed it and called me. In more than one occasion it was a turbo, so I went to BFE, got the turbo, drove to Houston, did the exchange, flopped out the American Express and took turbo back to BFE, stopping by shop for mechanic to tell me what drawer, what space and what tool he wanted. I might get home by 8 or 9 PM, but mechanic and driver were stuck until he got the truck back up and running. I kept a good stock of parts, but the fleet was not uniform. Everything from Volvo, Autocar, Mack, Sterling, Cat engines, Mercedes, Cumminsand other’s.

speaking of turbos a few years back okay 17 years ago was coming back from the old retread shop blew the turbo in my peterbilt, okay the tow truck showed up with their spare tractor <sterling>, got going again drove to the next stoplight that turbo blew..they rented a tractor for me to do the next days run. less than a mile for the rental locallation that tractor blew it's turbo.. needless to say still have the nickname of the "turbonator"
