i've been eyeing those too. but i would like to be able to keep the seeds, however i have lots of Queen Anne's lace growing wild so i'm afraid it would cross pollinate.

I love those! They are so cool! I was so excited when I finally was successful growing carrots a couple of years ago. I planted Cosmic Purple, but they were purple only on the outside, still made a pretty carrot salad. I bet these, mixed with orange or yellow carrots, would make a drop dead gorgeous salad!

I stumbled onto them and couldn't say no. 2015 I'll have something like 6 colors and 8 varieties of carrots growing.

Yellow. http://www.rareseeds.com/amarillo-carrot/

Red http://www.rareseeds.com/atomic-red-carrot/

Purple. http://www.rareseeds.com/cosmic-purple-carrot/

Orange http://www.rareseeds.com/nantes-scarlet/

Red different variety http://www.rareseeds.com/pusa-rudhira-red-carrot/

White http://www.rareseeds.com/snow-white-carrot/

I went a little overboard but I plan on mixing them all up so when planted it's a surprise when it's time to dig them up. I'll take a small amount of each, combine them shake it up and start planting. My daughter will love not knowing what each one is till harvest. I figure I'll go with the longest spacing when planting and run with it. If she wasn't so into eating carrots I wouldn't bother but she likes them so here we go.

Except the black ones those I'm going to plant separately and try to keep pure so I can save seeds on to share with anybody who is interested. That's my hope.....so we'll see

Like Queen Ann's lace, carrots are biennial. That means this year it is safe to grow the carrots. Then, early next spring you can cover a few plants you've selected for seed. You just need to keep the carrots from blooming at the same time as the QAL. I've done that by bringing select carrots up from storage early in the year and get them started growing (inside) long before QAL. That way your carrots will be flowering before QAL competition.
