It's a very old variety of carrot that have been "rediscovered" for lack of a better term. Same with some of the other colors.

Good go know about that trick @Smart Red thank for for sharing!

And if I had that growing season *ahem* @baymule I'd SOOO have killing corn growing. I might still try it if I pushed for an April planting and see what it does maybe harvest in late Sept......THANKS A LOT BAY!!! :he :th:lol:

Are those the carrots from the Explorer Series/India section?

Don't forget to update on how they do for you, and post pictures!

No that's another one (which I think they've dropped, since I can't seem to find it in the list anymore).
I think the pictures are of that one, but according to the Baker Creek link, Spanish Black are supposed to be white cored.

Incidentally for anyone on the other side of the Atlantic (or anyone here who wants to brave the complexities of international seed ordering. Kokopelli carries a Tunisian black (well, 1/4 black, 1/2 purple 1/4 orange) carrot called De Djerba I've heard good things about (emphasis on heard, back when I ordered from them, I don't think seed for this carrot was in stock at any time)

Good to know about the Amarillo carrots. I was looking for a richer yellow instead of an off white or beige carrot. Glad to hear they won't just be fodder.

Those look neat. I grew a carrot variety this summer called "Atomic Red" I bought from Baker Creek seeds. They seemed to have richer flavor than an orange variety. I'll probably grow the Atomic Red every year now.

Carrots naturally come in a variety of colors. My understanding is the Dutch were the ones responsible eons ago for breeding the carrot for an orange color. It caught on and many people probably think that is the usual color of a carrot.

First thing I thought of was, what would ya get if ya cross a black carrot with a white carrot? I'm relishing the thought of a grey carrot!

Or maybe black and white with rings like a chioggia beet...
