He blames the agri-business giant for not providing adequate warnings on the product label.
Crossbones on container and he didn't get the hint? NO PROBLEM outlawing all chemicals, if that's what the consumers want. Just get ready to pay for it and expect food to be about 10X more expensive, good for those of us in ag. We'll make pharm companies, doctors, lawyers, stock brokers all bow down at our feet for food.

In USA, he would be put in jail for failing to follow OSHA rules, polluting the environment and for being just too stupid to breathe.

You do realize if this type of ruling is upheld (I doubt Monsanto will contest, just pay and move on--as product was removed in '07) everyone can be held liable because you failed to properly label any product you sell. I can sue (with this court win) because I drowned from drinking milk because no one warned me of what chemicals are in the milk and there was no directions on the jug to instruct me how to properly drink milk. Just saying

Go back to Monsanto bashing, sorry, couldn't resist.

Ha... its not like he drank it, he handled it properly it appears, it was just the 'fumes' and they obviously removed it cause they "done *screwed* up". Now they gotta pay for it.

And if you can sue McD's for burning yourself with hot coffee because the cup wasn't labelled correctly for contents... then you sure can sue over a container of chemicals a human WILL handle and its not labelled correctly. As for Monsanto, they got enough chemicals out there they should probably know all the dangers those chemicals are causing and are so busy covering it up they'll just pay this one off and move on!

It's a start!

I have asked in other threads about why someone would so completely defend Monsanto but never gotten an answer. I just can't wrap my head around why someone would defend a giant corporation so completely. I suppose I don't trust corporations, but seriously it makes me think they have something to gain by doing so. Maybe they have bought stock in the company or have other financial interest involved? Or maybe they know something I don't know, that what Monsanto is doing is actually good for the human race? Not for profits and good for ones own (MONSANTO'S) ego and wealth.

I'd really like to hear solid reasons why it is ok for Monsanto to genetically modify a nature occurring product, contaminate any other organic product and then sue a farmer for it. etc etc

I am new to learning about what Monsanto is doing to our food supply and would like to hear a really solid debate as to why it is ok, why the seeds can be claimed to belong to Monsanto (which I do get the GMO and patent laws, but a seed? really?) and why any person feels the calling to publically defend such actions?

I have my opinions on Monsanto but Ive never really heard Monsantos side of it. Perhaps someone can change my mind on the whole mess of it. :idunno

There are always plenty of debates about that on here... and I mean PLENTY!

They usually end up with people blowing up about it, people getting slammed and down right nastiness. So usually those threads get locked. I'd say we'll have 4 or 5 good debated a year. Otherwise its mainly in passing mention. It's a good idea to do some research on the whole thing though... and look global not just local US. The US is more corporate then any of a lot of the other countries are, and they make it clear what they are willing to accept and not accept from a company. I find more countries outside the US have stricter laws then we do (minus South America) as they care more about the longevity of the country's land.

All I can picture is that damn "American Farmer's for Monsanto" commercial I see all the time... it makes my head spin! "We can't have more land, so we have to get as much as we can out of what we got!" ...or something like that. I just want to slap those morons stupid. That land will be useless soon enough... good profiting for Monsanto... how's the debt and iron clad contract look now?!

Maybe in France he did, don't know their environmental or OSHA laws. In USA, he did not, as you are to wear aspirators when handling any chemicals. Plus in USA, you have to take training classes, pass tests, etc to handle chemicals except what you can buy at your local farm store--glysophates, 2-4D's etc.

Again, what moron sticks his head in a tank full of chemical fumes? Here's your sign...........

Boxer, there have been many threads on this. Basic argument is can a plant breeder protect his investment in time/money. Then there are those that don't like GMO by anyone which I understand as my garden is GMO free. I also understand the American farmer did what he had to do to financially survive and GMO products do that. When the buying public will pay more for non-GMO products, guess what farmers will produce. Here's a bit of irony for you, EU won't grow GMO's but they have no problem buying, feeding or eating them.
