Hi majorcatfish :frow Glad to send you some "21 pea" crowder cowpeas to try if you PM me your address. They are a pole variety with pods that turn purple when the seeds are ready to pick (so easy peasy) and quite productive for me. You won't go wrong with Southern Exposure's varieties either!

that would be great can always find room to do a trail...
we usually hit the farmer's market for them.

I had a variety that was supposed to be better for the northern garden.

Grew it one year and, I guess, I would have had to eaten them fresh. I like them canned ...

Anyway, the seed didn't mature. Same story with adzuki. I'd enjoy trying those for dessert. I'm thinking about using some beans for a custard pie but nearly pumpkinned out from the holidays ...

I love peas. I've grown different varieties over the years, purple hulls (a favorite) black eyes, cream peas, crowder, the list goes on..... I even like shelling them. Shelling peas is relaxing and my link to the past-sitting on the porch of grandparents or friends grandparents, shelling peas. It was considered good manners to grab a pan and help shell peas. I used to put up 2 or 3 bushels a year. Don't need that many now, but I will definitely grow peas!
