I understand the whole value of resale. I though am a person that buys something because I like it, never do I think of what it will be worth in the future! I am also a very do it yourself kinda gal, I have been a painter for 12 years so I am pretty comfortable with painting anything. Whatever pleases my eye is what I decide.

i love the table. it, so far, has not had a meal at it but i love how compact it is & i can easily expand it when needed. my mom only got it because my grandmother was down sizing & moving to an apartment a couple years ago. the table/chairs didn't fit into my mother's decor & she was trying to sell it at a yard sale for about $200 firm. i took an interest in it when i saw it. i never noticed it at my great grandma or grandmother's houses because they always put a table cloth over it.

I think it's great that you have it and want to put it to daily use. That it has been a part of your relatives lives is a bonus. But by all means make it your own, even if the purists cringe...

How about painting it color you want, when mom visits cover with table cloth.
good point. but it is the top that i love. it is an enamel porcelain top with flower pots baked into the enamel in brown & cream. i'll have to get a pic of the details sometime. a couple years ago when i got the table i found one similar in style but not the same pattern on the top. wish i had picked that one up to put in my craft room. could have gotten that one for about $50 without the chairs.

Agree, if given to you, do what you want with it. Since it is family heirloom, if you decide to get rid of it, give family members first chance at it.
