crook-necked squash ?

Last year I grew yellow crook-necked squash and all, except for a couple of odd ones that were warty and never matured, were smooth skinned. This year, I got my seedling from the same grower and every one of the fruits are maturing but are VERY warty this year. Why? Some disease I don't know about or normal? Not planted in same area as last year either. The plant looks otherwise very healthy and is getting good sun and water.

I think as they mature they develop the warts. If they are getting them before the maturity maybe they are a cross pollinated variety or more of a gourd? I don't think the warts are unhealthy or poisonous just ugly but I don't know much.

All my yellow crook necks are warted and I think if you do some research, you'll find that is a normal state of affairs.

At first I thought it was weird, too. Then, the more I looked into it, the more I learned that was normal for many, many cultivars.
