Hi! First post here- I'm over on BYC too-

I direct seeded and transplanted cucumbers last year, and the direct seeded ones did WAY better. I'm going to try both this year again, using the peat pots, I think I messed with their roots too much transplanting last year.

Ok, so even though you all suggested to direct plant the seeds, I couldn't get my organic soil over to the apartment and I was itching to start something. So I dampened a paper towel and put it in a plastic bag. I put 6 seeds in the bag and set it on a table near a window. Sure enough, 2 days later, and 3 of them have sprouted little white tails. Should I go ahead and plant these in soil, or wait till they've grown their first set of leaves?

4 sprouts! One just opened up today and I must say in only a matter of five and half hours, those little sprouts really move! It was just starting to open this morning when I checked and now the little white tail is just cruising on out of that seed.

I don't know that either inch... I've only got 3 going out that I started in peat pots (trying to be careful with root shock, I was warned about cukes and cantelopes not liking transplant much).

Wow Soy... that was super fast!!! Nature sure knows what to do. :D
