Smiles, I'm kind of with you: if you are talking about summer squash. I think it looks nice & I like to grow it . . . I've tried to learn to like to eat it. Honestly, I have! Zucchini bread is good . . .

I do like winter squash and appreciate that it can be stored for several months. Also, I have made "pumpkin" pies with squash every since I was a kid - it was my holiday job ;).

I used to plant acorn but after trying 3 or 4 varieties in my present location, have given up on it. I think that there's something wrong with the soil - acorn has a funny flavor and it isn't just me that thinks so! Burgess buttercup does well and has a good flavor and I've grown it just about forever. For about the last 3 seasons, I've had Cha Cha Kabocha. It really isn't a lot different from the buttercup, tho'.

I haven't found another kabocha that matures well for me. Early butternut does fine but not the standard, Waltham butternut.

I love squash. Winter, summer all kinds. Right now I'm only getting zucchini out of the garden. The yellow will be ready soon. I also have about 6 different types of winter planted. All seem to be thriving except the buttercup. And that ones my favorite with the white acorn trailing close behind :)

Love it. Winter, summer, doesn't matter.

Winter squash is amazing stuffed with a sausage and onion stuffing and baked, then drizzled with maple syrup. Or if it's hubbard, I love it in pies, custard or pumpkin type. Summer yellow squash is amazing breaded and fried with onions. Zucchini makes awesome bread or cake.

Unfortunately my seedlings this year were sickly and didn't take off well. I've had years where I've harvested hundreds of squash and I'm in some kind of squash hades ... and I take random trips down the road and shove squash in people's mailboxes that I don't know (this is probably a federal crime). This year I doubt I'll get any. And I'll be sad.

I plant squash! I love squash and so does my DH! I planted 8 yellow squash and 8 zuchinni. We had a bumper crop and we ate squash almost every night and I froze a bunch of it too. Now the vines are running 5-6 feet long, the summer heat is wilting them past the point of water hose revival and some have died. :hit

And I was given a fantastic recipe for zuchinni cobbler that is soooooooo unbelievable good!!! I have only made it twice because the zukes are aboput done. Right now there are 2 little ones on a vine and I am watching them intently. :fl I even took a few pieces from the cobbler I made a few days ago and dehydrated them. WOW!!! :ep Zuchinni Candy!!! :love

If you don't like zuchinni or if it is just bland, try this!! Instead of playing zuchinni baseball with those huge "baseball bat" sized zukes--make pies!! :thumbsup

Zuchinni Cobbler
FILLING
8 cups Zuc. peeled and seeded use large
2/3 cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix and cook until tender and set aside to cool

CRUST
4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup butter or oleo
cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on top

Mix crust till crumbly and pat 1/2 of crust into an oblong baking dish.
Bake that crust for 10 minutes at 375*
Place filling on baked crust and then put other 1/2 of crust mix over filling.
Sprinkle the cinnamon/sugar over top.
Bake at 375* for 30 minutes.

Don't tell them it is zuchinni and they will think it is apple....

I'm a big zucchini fan. At our house we make zucchini candy (with the kool aid packets), and relish which both were recipes I got off TEG. They turned out great thank you for sharing them! We also make zucchini boats with a mix of veggies and ground turkey and freeze it. Its the same meat mix that we do for stuffed peppers. When prepping the zucchini we scoop out the seeds and make little canoe/boats that we fill with the turkey mixture. Really its that easy. They are great for lunch or a simple easy dinner. Toss them in the microwave for a few minutes and eat. The zucchini is raw when we freeze it but when reheated its soft, and tastes good.

We freeze loafs of bread to have when the seasons are past. We've already got 4 loafs in the freezer and more growing in the garden. I scaled back on it this year, I'm still trying to find the balance that gives us enough without having too much.

I like yellow summer squash too. We'll slice both zucchini and yellow summer squash lengthwise, brush with olive oil, little salt pepper and grill. Or we'll add cut up disks of both zucchini and yellow squash to our kabobs. We'll marinate them and they readily take whatever flavor of marinate we use. Good way to bulk up the volume of veggies available and give some variety.

Don't do much winter squash. We just don't eat it. I love acorn squash and my wife likes it, but when I make it, its not very good for you so its a treat not a staple. Hubbards are good too, but again we just don't eat that much unless its winter time and even then I have a hard time justifying the space it takes up to grow it.

We like squash of all varieties. I planted a few spaghettie squash plants this year for the first time. I don't know if we will like it, but I know there will be takers if we don't. I ususally let one of my zucchinis get really big and take it to one of the teachers at school that I work with and she carves it for her kids.

I LOVE summer squash, plant it and fight the squash bugs for it. Squash is a staple in any sauce or soup at all, and zuchini is actually my spaghetti since I am allergic to wheat. I have repeatedly tried to like winter squash b/c I know I should, but really have a hard time liking it at all.

We plant it. Yellow Summer, Zucchini, butternut, buttercup. The winter squashes I like. The summer squashes not as much. Zucchini for bread is good and I have a recipe some where for a chocolate Zucchini cake that was good if memory serves.

When we were kids, my mother would slice up discs of Yellow Summer and Zucchini and onions. Mix in a bowl with crushed tomatoes. Put the whole mixture in a 9 x 13 casserole dish. Sprinkle with bread or cracker crums a little butter and shredded cheese on top. Bake in the oven. To most people it is delish. To me, it is just one more dished ruined by tomatoes. :hide Yeah I know...I'm sorry. :)

Oh I love summer squash and zukes... and lots of pumpkin and butternut squash too!

Other then that... NO!

Acorn squash, all those funny old fashion squashes that are so pretty... not a fan of.

But what I really love, and my family loves too... stuffed and fried squash blossoms! Oh is that stuff GOOD. I stuff them with goat cheese, or turkey sausage, turkey pepperoni & fresh mozzerella. I'll beer batter them, or tempera batter. So darn good... we'd pick a couple dz in the morning while they're open, I'll rinse then and put them on a paper towel in the fridge to dry until dinner. I usually only pick the male blossoms, but when I'm sick and tired of squash, I'd pick the females too. Hahahaha
