In fairness, he may be a decent policeman who made a mistake in an effort to put a drunk in jail. I would want to take his-drunk-genes out of the human gene pool.

The man was a victim of another being chased by police. No excuse for this abuse of power against someone who explained the law to him and asked her administration for the best course of action. He surely must know the law.

Re-read article. I stand corrected.

Although policeman was told by his commander to do this. Will be interesting to see what she collects off of this.

She did the right thing, no question about it. In the confines of our jobs we have certain policies that protect our patients. If he had needed a blood sample so badly he could have gotten a warrant for it and then the blood could have been drawn. There was NO excuse for his actions....for his threats or manhandling this nurse, nor putting her in his cruiser. It's a bullying police state action and that's not good police work or behavior.

Yes, I wouldn't want to do the job of the police, but they too have to adhere to policy and rules to protect the public from their will to do it THEIR way instead of the right way. The man wasn't a suspect in drunk driving, the man who was driving the pick up was. Even if he WAS a suspect, warrants have to be obtained to take a sample from a man who cannot consent to giving bodily fluids.

Following these correct policies and rules protects our health care privacy and also against police authority and these things are all a part of what it means to live free in the US. He needs to be suspended and she needs to be commended.

My son said the officer in question rendered his resignation. That allows him to keep his pension and other 'retiree' rights and forstalls further action by the department that may have resulted in firing and losing all benefits.

A definite case of rear covering. The officer probably shouldn't have been pursuing the pickup driver at dangerous speeds. He may have thought he'd be accused of causing the accident by his pursuit and laying a case against the innocent victim may have been a protective move. Around here there are "no pursuit' rules except in cases of kidnapping or other dangerous threats.

What is one of many things wrong with America. So you can't chase a law breaker? Let thieves, drunks, drug traffickers go because police can't drive over 35 mph....

Neighbors won huge law suit against police because their son died while driving a cycle too fast while drunk....let's not put the blame where it belongs. Blame the police.

Let's give them trikes to ride and cap guns. Don't bother to call them when you have need for help.

We need our cops more than ever these days seems like. But we have laws about illegal search and seizure to protect the mass majority of Americans. Without these laws we would live in a police state for sure.

I have no problem with busting police when they are wrong. But that bad things happen to innocents is not on the police. If an innocent is harmed while the police try to apprehend a potential law breaker should be on law breaker. If someone is injured or killed while a drunk runs, it should be on drunk.

The concept of "no chasing" is ludicrous.
