I hope your son is not very sick. I was hoping people who got Delta would not get the new strain at least not this fast. My friend in Kansas told me her daughter, husband and 5 kids all have covid, but not sure which one. Her 2 youngest were barely sick and now well, but they had to test to go back to school. The boy tested positive and can go back to school Monday. The sister tested negative and she cannot go back to school for 10 days. I would sure like to sit next to somebody who tested positive a few days ago, NOT! I can see where the girl has to stay home because she has been exposed. :hu
DS told me the symptoms this time are minor, so no worries. It was much worse when he had Delta; he had pneumonia & had to take antibiotics, and was really scared at one point. Apparently those who recover from Delta have no immunity to Omicron. DD#2 & our Granddaughter in college both had Delta too, and have Omicron now - about 1/3 of our family infected in just the past week. :ep Fully vaccinated or not, DW & I are going to severely limit our outside activities for the next month.

Traveling or going anywhere is risky right now. DS just contacted me, he & his wife won a vacation to Mexico (from one of their jobs). They were supposed to return today, but DS tested positive (twice) and will be forced to quarantine in Mexico. His wife tested negative & will be allowed to return unaccompanied. :( They both just had Delta a few months ago.
Wishing your family get well and stay safe from here on in.

Could these viruses be coming with the rain we are having heaps of rain here

I am hearing of a lot of people saying they have Omnicron and they are not testing and even last year people said I have Delta and never tested. My friend's daughter just swore they all had Delta but never tested and now some have tested positive, one is vaccinated and just as sick as the others. The mother to me has symptoms of Delta and they probably do because when they got sick the news had said Omnicron was not in Kansas at the time and same here in Idaho a bunch of people saying they have it and getting tested and they do not have any kind of covid, they are just sick. There are some sick that never did get covid and have gone for tests and they have it, so this is their first time.

@Zeedman Did your family have the shots and the booster too? Was this a break thru event?
DS got the shots after his bout with Delta, because it was required of his job. Granddaughter was also vaccinated, as required by her college. So both were not only vaccinated, but had tested positive to Delta previously.

I wonder about immune systems why some people are getting this twice. If they have not recovered from the first time and then get exposed and immune system is not built up. Maybe, why so many kids getting RSV and hand, foot and mouth. One family I know has been sick basically since 2019. They get well for a month or so and then they have something else. My chiropractor said his patients that had covid are just a mess. One lady never had high blood pressure and now has a problem. I read that it can take TSH levels really low for a few months before coming back to normal.

DD's sister-in-law and husband got covid and she asked DD, what was that vitamin we were supposed to be taking. It was D3 and if you live in Idaho and are not taking D3 your D3 level is low and a regular medical doctor told me to make sure my kids got D3. He had cancer and finally had to retire. A friend had low D3 and she got breast cancer. Her level was extremely low. My brother who worked inside all day and did not get out in the sun much had his level checked and was very low. This was years ago and he started taking huge doses for months and got it to borderline low normal, so he takes it all the time in the winter and not so much in summer. He had told me back then that he bet my level was low and I never paid any attention to him but decided to take it and noticed after I started taking it the skipped heartbeats I had for years was gone. I had my level checked about 2 years ago and it was very good.

almost all people in the northern hemisphere will be low level D3 this time of the year because they are not getting outside. i've been taking extra D3 and once every other time i also take some K2. when you supplement D3 in higher amounts you do want extra K2.

as for how the immune system works, well if you've had a virus or a vaccine and the next version comes along and it is different enough you may still get sick again, that's why we keep getting colds, because they mutate frequently enough to avoid the immediate defenses of the body. however, in the recent pandemic with Covid-19 the immune system is also still functioning in that most people who get Delta who've been vaccinated do not get as sick as they might otherwise have gotten and the same goes for Omicron, if you've been vaccinated you're not as likely to get as sick. as they are finding out that most Omicron cases are being detected in hospitals when people show up for other things and they test and find it even if the person was having no symptoms at all.

as to the question that @Marie2020 asked, viruses can be in the rain, but you're not too likely to be infected by them. in the recent Omicron surge it's just the case that the virus is being spread by so many people it is going to be on every surface you touch in public and also in the air in general in any public space. so until the general population gets over this it's just going to be around. that's why i've told everyone that if you've not already had it you probably will. almost everyone has it now out and about and for the next six weeks or so i suspect it will be going around.

the good news with Omicron is that it isn't as likely to kill you and it is outcompeting Delta.

the numbers are showing that while more people are in the hospital after Delta has been being replaced by Omicron if you look at the number of infections (and these are only those they have diagnosed via testing) there hasn't been a huge increase in those who are being ventilated or in the ICU. the Monday numbers are usually not the best, but since i'm looking at them i thought i'd post 'em.
