Do Emails Replace Thank You Notes?

I just got a thank you note from a child. It brought back memories of my mother and her insisting that we always write a thank you note for a gift we got. Are thank you notes a thing of the past,do emails replace them? I think they show good manners.

You're making me feel guilty. The other day I received a gift card for an ice-cream place from one of my parents for no special reason. I sent an email thank you note. The day before she had sent 2 cookies from this place. She knows I love the ice-cream sandwiches from there. She said her cookies didn't come out well for her daughter's birthday to take to school. She remembered be raving about this place. She went there and found they sell their cookies by the bag. Bought some and rushed to school to deliver them. I think she was feeling very grateful that I saved the day! lol

I think it's just important to show thankfulness, one way or the other. But I'm sure all of us enjoy getting a nice handwritten card in the mail. It is more personal, in most cases. They do make cute e-cards you can send by e-mail too. I send those every once in a while, depending on the recipient.

My mom never once made us write thank-yous. I think we did grow up being rather self-centered children. I was well into my 20's before I realized what a heathen I was and changed my ungrateful ways. LOL.

@Nyboy I will take the email thank you over NO thank you. But love to get mail and hand written thanks. I do send quick updates via email, but still write long newsy letters to some friends and relatives that do not live close. I am so pleased when I receive mail that is NOT A bill. When I receive a treat or gift from a child on my bus, I will give them a handwritten Thank You note. Hoping to pass along that feeling and the hope that they will someday remember.

Yup, just emailed a thank you to my Gran for sending hubby a birthday card. I'm bad about remembering to send birthday cards, grandmas seem to be the best at remembering those things!

It's funny how I don't save email thank you's. But I do save the hand written cards from my parents. At least for a couple years.
