Does anyone know anything about discus? (It's a tropical fish.)

Unfortunately the last one died. I didn't realize that they were tiny for discus. The fish tank he was in is a heavily planted shrimp tank. There is very little space in the tank that doesn't have some kind of plant. Moss growing on the rock, cork screw grass in front of it, ludwigia behind it, amazon sword and a couple of micro swords, some nanos, some other super tall plant I don't know the name of.

The tank has been running about a year, and has 0 PPM ammonia, 7.2 PH, Nitrites 0 PPM and has a very low amount of nitrates. Temperature is 82, I use a sponge filter and do weekly water changes. I don't know what killed him. All the sudden changes? Stress? The water?

It's a lot of change for a little fish that was an egg just 2mo ago.
Sorry none made it.

Discus can grow to be 6-8in diameter discs. So like a larger tea cup plate.

Sorry, @secuono, just some friendly teasing. Proof-reading is one of my literary strengths. Check out this small faux pax one of our much loved friends made.

Standard 29 gallon aquarium, standard 2' light, white sand bottom, guppies, 8 cories, 7 otto's, 10 tetras. Gets light about 14 hours/day. 73 degrees. Haven't used any fertilizers. Hornwort does well. One sword that has sent out 1 runner. Very basic water.

Thinking of putting in 1" deep container on one end for swords with soil covered by white sand, Mistake?

Well turds.....my bad
=)

Cories will dig in sand, they dug out all my fert pills until I added 1.5 more inches of sand!

New plants like to melt from the stress of moving. How long did you wait until giving up on them?
Swords soak up a lot from their roots, adding a fert pill every 4-6mo is a good idea.

Are you getting a lot of algae? If not, I'd guess there's not enough ferts in the water, which is weird, since fish food the plants can use as their food.
