Does anyone know anything about discus? (It's a tropical fish.)

Getting some algae as otto's nice and fat-also feed some algae pellets. Never notice cories digging deep in soil. 2" of sand. Is it stupid to consider adding soil for plants and covering with sand?

Old leaves on swords are gone. Some new growth, just not great.

Is it P & K? R there enough N in fish water?

Amazon swords like iron rich fertilizers, in liquid or substrate tabs/pills.
You can get some potting soil that already has nutrients in it, soak it in water, carefully layer it on the bottom. Add the plants, top it with plenty of sand and then carefully fill it up with water. It might be a cloudy mess for a few days and any time a fish or person pulls a plant up.
They're called dirt tanks or capped dirt tanks, lots of people have done it. I've used rabbit poo pellets mixed with dirt and capped with 2in sand in a past tank I had.

I use Osmocote Plus, put them into empty water-soluble pill cases and stick them in around rooted plants. Then I have Leaf Zone I add every now and then.
Making your own root tabs/pills is far cheaper than buying the fancy aquarium ones.

I haven't read up on this for a long while - are ottos the ones with the "spikes" on there noses that originally come from somewhere in the Amazon? Or would that be a Pleth---can't-remember-name?

This whole topic sounds fishy to me.

My gold fish are still waiting for me to bring them inside for the winter. I hope their little mufflers are warm enough.

I leave my Koi outside, but my pond is deep enough and large enough for that.
I couldn't imagine bringing in 10 1.5ft Koi and goldfish into the house! =0

OK, so the plecos were the ones that I was thinking of (aka "bristlenose catfish"). Very cool pictures, I like the pattern on the common pleco. Someday I'll have an aquarium... someday.

We used to have a koi pond with multiple koi fishes, one was about a foot and an a half (huge!). I remember breaking several nets trying to get that one fish out of the pond so that the pond could be cleaned. Yeah, couldn't imagine bringing 10 of those inside for the winter... and the size of the tank that you would need to keep them all in.
