These articles excited me bc I have supplies on hand. My old small tomato cages haven't really worked well, even for peppers, who often outgrow them, Too. That's why I went to 6 ft fencing for my tomatoes.

I have a good supply of chicken wire and I think I can combine the two to make cages for my 2025 cabbages.
I didn't know that chicken wire to stop these nasty white moths. :sick
My biggest past mistakes were:
1) starting cabbage (all brassicas) too late in the Spring
2) cabbage moths--I could see the big holes in the leaves as they slowly withered :hit
We, as a family can go through a LOT of slaw, and we also like to cook cabbage. Since DD has figured out how to take the unused beef cut and make it into corned beef, we will also enjoy That if I can grow them this year.
Garden dreaming....
A gardening friend has the most pristine, gorgeous perfect cruciferous vegetables I've ever seen. Just spectacular cabbages, and she is in a difficult zone too, one lower than me. She uses that translucent crop cover fabric, as row covers. After last years cabbage experiment I'm thinking that's about the best way to go with preventing the moths from getting to them. I've never tried chicken wire, I hope that works for you.:hugs

The seeds of great things are often small.

THIS article really piqued my interest bc I have a gardening use for paper bags. Right now my only source of paper grocery bags is to purchase them for groceries when I shop at ALDI, 7 cents/bag--maybe it's 10 cents now? :hu
Our system doesn't make it easy to recycle plastic grocery bags and they are SO cheap!
I Save the plastic bags I get when shopping at Rural King, Farm & Fleet and Menards, bc they are better quality, and I can use them as small trash can liners and to bag up used cat litter.
I also still have a roll of biodegradable white plastic kitchen sized (13 gallon) garbage bags. They weren't that pricey and I feel ok using them in my garden.

@ducks4you great article. Lov the name of the farm Good Feet Farms. It works well if animals are equally available to perform other than leaving droppings 😉.
Similar in the way I garden using recycled hay in the form of sun heated horse manure to burn out weed seeds mixed with yard compost and walla. Black gold beautiful soil for the garden. Never rototilled with the horses.Yikes hard labor. Some of the gardening techniques are similar to Organic.

But I have been known to attach back pack saddles on the horses while roaming thru the forests to collect moss for ground cover and collecting mushrooms that grow on trees for decorative art painting pics or garden labels. Bract mushrooms are usually grown on fir trees. With permission.

Then there’s ‘ Electroculture Gardening’ .
