Tomatoes are starting to come in. Here is what I harvested on Tuesday, and 3 more are ready for harvest for tonight's hamburgers.

High of 70?? 5 inches of water in horse buckets?
It’s 103F here, no rain for past 2 months, hot, dry, grass is brown and crunchy. Got sheep on dry lot, eating hay and feed pellets like a swarm of locusts.

But it’s Texas. We have a long summer here. Plus many other seasons!

I went to the grocery store this morning, and was going to pick up a can of pumpkin cause I felt like making a pie. It was $8.50. I said forget that. When I cashed out I mentioned to the cashier how nuts that is, and she told me someone else had grabbed a can without checking the price (usually $3.50) and nearly choked when they rung it in.

We spent three hours today harvesting, chopping, and slow roasting tomatoes with garlic, to jar up for the freezer. We got three jars in the end, and it will be so lovely to enjoy pasta with homegrown sauce when we crack them open through the winter. There was sure a lot of time and effort that went in to getting to that point though. If I had to charge for my labour it would be very, very expensive tomato sauce. 🍅
