Vfem, we are all rooting for both of you. You are doing such a spendid job as evident by her healing/improving. Keep up the good work and try to get some rest. I think by Saturday, she will be much improved.
Oh, she doesn't look nearly as bad as I was imagining! She is adorable! Isn't there some delicious treat she would enjoy? Maybe yogurt, or fruit- something she couldn't resist? Give yourself a pat on the back for taking such good care of her! Hoping for continuing good news....
what a lucky and very brave little lady! sounds like she has enough spunk to pull through this! did you give her any of the eggs that were left in her nest or were they all taken?
my coop got raided about 2 years ago and 5 of my girls got taken and one girl survived getting caught by whatever it was. we think raccoon got in and tried to pull them from the roosts through a gap in the roof of the coop/shed. this poor little pullet had her neck de-sheathed and it sounds almost similar to your incident. it took some time to heal over the area that the skin got pulled from but i never cut off the part that was still hanging from the back of the skull. i did try cutting a little of it off but it bled so i didn't try that again and it has remained that way growing feathers too. she survived and has helped to hatch out the second set of chicks for me! she's got 2 chicks now that are just over 2 weeks old and that bit of skin healed off to the side and gives her a weird cowlick look but it doesn't bother her one bit! the boys seem to like grabbing her there though so during the spring she goes bald quickly on that patch and on her head.
