SeedO, were you perchance home schooled? I find it hard to believe you're learning this in a Public School.
I've been home schooled since fifth grade, best thing that ever happened to me. We do relearn a lot of the same stuff over and over again though. I've gained much of my knowledge through reading lots of books and talking to different sorts of people. From what a non-gardening friend from up north says it sounds like the public schools have gotten even worse since I've left. Now wars in history class, not even the American Revolution, Civil War, etc. He has no idea who Ho Chi Minh or Douglas MacArthur are. Much of history for both of us is made up of the Civil Rights and Feminist Movements and we are both seeing whole chapters on Barack Obama in out textbooks.
Other than that I have no idea what else is happening to the public schooling systems and might be afraid to know.

I could probably write a few pages about how home schooling is better than brick - and -mortar schools but don't have the time. I go to OHVA (Ohio Virtual Academy) the only con about this is that my eyes end up pretty bloodshot by the end of the day.

I made the decision to home school my kids before they were even born. Not that I am a superlative teacher, but I thought that as a parent it was my responsibility to direct their learning.
There is an entire universe of learning options out there now, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I thought so too! You can always tell; the kids are so much more mature. We're homeschoolers too. :) DD6 is in first grade. I was homeschooled 4th and 5th grade. I wish my mom could have kept at it, but the laws were different back then. My brother needed remediation after scoring too low on the standardized test twice in a row, so we all went off to Christian school for a few years, then back into public school. Homeschooling was my favorite though, since I had more time to pursue my own interests.

My kids were in and out of private school. It made a difference. I worked or I would have home schooled them. They got just enough public school to appreciate their private school. The algebra my daughter had in 6th grade, private school, was the same math she got in her second year of college. Other students were falling all over it, but she aced it.

@thistlebloom I would like the ribbin' a whole lot better with BBQ sauce!!
