Do you mean the water to the whole area is turned off in November? So a person couldn't live there year round unless they had a well dug, or carried in water? And I guess the fireplace is the only heat? That explains the price, then. Still, neat place. And who needs running water, anyway?

Way back in the dark ages, when I was a young'n, my Uncle John lived on a 40 acre farm up near Oconto, Wisconsin. While he had indoor plumbing, he had also had his well directly linked to the kitchen faucet. In the winter he would shut the house water off to everything but the kitchen sink and drain the pipes. Bathroom then was the outhouse.

Every Saturday morning he would fire up the water heater and turn the water back on for laundry and bathing. Saturday evening the water was drained once again. All water for washing up during the week was from the kitchen sink and heated on the wood stove in the kitchen.

This was the "normal" way they lived and raised my 4 cousins. It's not such a difficult thing to make a summer home year round.

Went to see house yesterday, 40 years thing change. Should have been renamed meth mountain, the houses where all unkempt. Did get Realtor to admit high crime rate. While my familys old house looked great no one would want to vacation there.

Sorry to hear that about the place.

I'm not surprised though. Rural area with limited access and minimal interference once the weather turns. I bet they cook meth up there.
