Can you sleep in the recliner?
At some point it becomes an anxiety thing. If you are trying to fall asleep, your brain starts nagging at you: "I'm not going to be able to sleep! I gotta get up early in the morning. Why can't I just fall asleep?" Sure enough, you can't sleep.
You might try sitting in the recliner with some soft music going, and a boring book. If you find yourself drifting off, tell yourself you're just going to rest your eyes for 10 minutes. If you "know" you are not trying to sleep, maybe your brain will let you.

DH used to snore and when he quit smoking (the day he was diagnosed with lung cancer) then he stopped snoring. He is just awful with sleeping. The room has to be pitch dark. There has to be a fan going. It has to be perfect for him to sleep and then he does not sleep. Me, I just started snoring. I think losing weight might help, but my mother started snoring later in life and she ended up with congestive heart failure and she was not overweight. I have found that if I am outside doing stuff during the day, I will fall asleep so fast, I barely hit the pillow and I do not snore, but if I have been sitting all day, I not only snore, but I catch my breath and do it over and over until I fall asleep. I do not need darkness or a fan. I can sleep with the window open, light coming in, listen to rain or dogs barking, nothing bothers me. I don't think I have sleep apnea though because I do not have daytime sleepiness and never take a nap, but snoring worries me.

Cane problem with lots of pillows next day stiff neck. When I did my 1st sleep lab it was over 20 years ago, I was not over weight. The Tech kept making comments that he rarely runs test on people who are not grossly over weight. He kept thinking it was a waste of time running lab on someone my size. That morning he was singing a new tune after watching me all night.

I'm really sorry that this is such a difficult issue. I know how hard it's been with my own sleeping issues over the past several years. I just know that there must be an answer out there - even if it's a crazy one. o_O You've probably already tried all the 'usual' stuff - strict bedtime routine, no stimulants, no 'screen time', different mattress/sheets/pillow, noise, no noise, etc...

I still say, check your fitbit settings to be sure it's reporting accurately. I don't doubt that you are struggling, but if you're actually getting 5 or 6 hrs of sleep.. that's not quite as scary as only 2 or 3.

I have a friend who regularly 'resets' her 'circadian rhythm' by camping in the backyard for a weekend every few months. :idunno

Time for a new test.I think you might find the new machines better to use.. I have heard that story before about the mask being uncomfortable. Please quit smoking!

Lucky thats not a bad idea but no recliner.
I hear tell that there is a " Lazy Boy " rather large, squishy, fully adjustable, with a vibrator, recliner chair with your name on it on Craigslist this morning.
