turn the jar upside down a couple good hard taps with your palm of your hand on the bottom , turn jar up right twist open......... :frow

I agree Alex. Sexist, and totally inappropriate in todays world. And if you look back, only two women in this thread said they hand it to a male. :hide

I use the hot water method. I canned chicken broth Saturday and when I took the rings off I had to resort to the hot water method on several of them. It's just not worth a hernia.

I don't have a male I can hand it to. Or not one old enough to be stronger than me anyway, DS is young still. I cuss it open instead. Good to know about the beating method, I'll try that sometime ;)

Personally, I like the multi-jawed 'pliers' opener, works for most bottles and jars. Doesn't need batteries, or much in the way of muscles... usually. I swear that some of those lids are glued on.
