Major does he ever get purple martins ? I didn't think we had them in NY. Some garden centers sell the houses I thought they where more ornamental. How I need to shop for Martin house

I almost responded that you probably could find a nice purple martin house on CL. I forgot E-bay is on your Bookmarks list as well.

That is a work of art, Nyboy, but an expensive house for purple martins. I think you should do a bit more house searching before making up your mind.

A better martin house would have the bottom row of 'apartments', a bit of roofing, a second story of 'apartments', a bit more roofing and, perhaps, another layer of roofing with each story getting a bit smaller around. Purple Martins like lots of company when they decide to set up housekeeping.

But, you are right, I did agree that is one great work of art for the garden.

My Dad built me one out of outdoor grade plywood. Mom painted it. Nice but WAY too much maintainance plus so heavy. Took 8-10" thick pole to hold it.
