We have 25 acres lesa. It will make a nice pasture and orchard. We will really have to think about it before we start designating space to varioius things. A pond is going in somewhere as well. We kind of thought we knew where we wanted things before it was cleared, but know that it is; you get an entire different veiw from when it was wooded.

We have plenty of time to decide as there is much stumping and cleaning that will need to be done and that will take time and equipment. Things we are short on right now. :)

And Mary, thank you! We are glad it's done too.

THAT was a piece of work! Well done. Next is shift gears and get stumps. You'll be stump removing experts real soon.

Dig around roots, cut major roots, wrap chain, pull, load in bucket, next.

Then comes yanking roots. wrap chain, pull, load in bucket, next.

Very nice Stubborn, it looks so different when it's opened up! You should print out before and afters on google Earth.
I hope you keep updating this thread. :)

We are slowly thinning our trees and even that seems overwhelming at times. I have my eye on about a half acre behind the house that would be the perfect garden area. When we finally get it cleared and cleaned I hope I'm still able to garden!

hahaha Thistle, That is exactly what I said to the farmer! I think it would be cool to have the Google earth pictures printed and hanging in the barn at some point.

marshall, sounds like you have pulled a couple stumps in your day! It will be a lot of work. The farmer is hoping to get a used excavator to make the work a bit easier. One of the challenges will be keeping all of that wonderful forest top soil. It is so rich!

Thanks vfem, it is a little bitter/sweet for me. I love living in the woods, so to cut this much is a bit heart wrenching. But you are right, the orchard, pasture and little pond will be an added value and bring much joy.

major, I hear you!! We did save many many little oaks and a great number of very large ones too. I begged, pleaded, sulked and probably cried a bit to save 3 clusters of oaks that are almost directly in front of the house, but they block our scienic veiw. Well in everyone elses opinion they block the view. I say, move over a few feet and look around them. :D

ninnymary, thanks! I like the trail idea too. We are hoping in a few years to maybe have a team of draft horses that can pull wagons through the trails. One of our someday plans is to have our property used for weddings and such. Yes, we are big dreammers. :D

And...when I got home yesterday. There was my wood chip pile!!!!!! :weee
