Gift For 90 Year Old ?

Sat I am going to a birthday party for a 90 year old who is diabetic. I would normally bring a food basket for someone this age, but because he is diabetic thats out. Same goes for wine . I don't know this person very well, so don't know if any hobbies. I need some suggestions for a gift.

Couldn't you do a food basket with fruit, nuts, cheeses and crackers?

At 90 years old, a person has what they want. I like the food basket idea but understand your reluctance. Hmmm what a basket of silly gag gifts?

Perhaps a good book that you've read that he may like or a plant?

A nice selection of greeting cards, envelopes, stationary, and stamps. Older folks may still correspond via snail mail and there are all those nieces and nephews who have birthdays, weddings, graduations, and babies. Then there are all the sympathy cards rejoicing that he's outlived another compatriot. Especially nice would be offering to help with correspondence every so often.

My MIL sent cards to celebrate everything and I would spend a short time at the beginning of each month preparing the cards and envelopes for mailing. At Christmas it was most of a day -- or longer -- that we spent writing notes and addressing cards. With her macular degeneration, I know she was very happy to have the help.

Dad made it to 88 and was still a kid at heart. He loved silly things like those annoying talking fish! Animated plush animals, etc.

Red I think you have a winner!!!! He lived though Depression, so frugal cards and stamps he would welcome!! Mary Iike plant suggestion but he is flying in, so must be something he can pack easy.
