My big box of potatoes arrived Wednesday (!!!) and since I'm getting a later start than I planned for I decided not to chit them and plant them out yesterday.
I had a big plot of brush mowed and tilled last fall and that is this years potato patch. It's still pretty rough with roots and rocks but I didn't have the time to wait on getting it tidier.
Here's my potato patch early this spring. Had to de-moose it.
I really thought I'd have more than enough room and even get some other stuff in that area, but nope. I crowded them as usual
and used all but one bed up for spuds. I really need to stop doing that. One of these years.
So, I'm so excited! I got 30 pounds in; 5 pounds of Rose Finn fingerlings, 5 pounds of Purple Vikings, and 20 pounds of Marris Piper.
I'm hoping for 300 pounds of yield, and that would take us most of the way to the next harvest.
Then I got 100 pepper plants in, and a small portion of tomatoes, the rest will maybe go in tomorrow.
Then I got the coop cleaned, and the chicken feed area reorganized, 4 loads of laundry washed and hung on the line, some miscellaneous weeding (that's way overwhelming if I look at the amount remaining ), the perimeter border of the lawn tilled,
a few outlying areas that the weeds haven't taken over raked ( makes me feel better to look at it ) and the house vacuumed and dinner made. And then I sat down.
It was great fun, being out from sun up to sun down and getting so much accomplished in one day. It's been aggravating to my mind to have so much that needs doing here and not being here to do it.
Once I get caught up ( yeah right ) it won't be a marathon every Saturday. Then maybe I can sit in the garden and drink iced tea
and just enjoy it.
