My wallet is around 10 yrs old and still in good shape, except for the coin compartment is leaky. I buy the same type/brand of wallet and have done so for many a long year...they last so long that, when I need a new one, I'm always afraid they won't be making them any longer. They fit my stuff exactly, hence my loyalty to the type/brand.
My purse? A $4 find at GW I've been using for 3 yrs or more now and will continue to use until it's either falling apart or looks like it has mange. I'm very utilitarian...I don't care about brands when it comes to purses. It's all about the pockets, how they are arranged, and the general size. I carry the exact same things in my purse that I have done since having children 30 yrs ago, so the purse has to be the right size/shape to accommodate these items.
I too no longer carry a purse around and about...it goes to the car with me and then back to the house with me, but when I go shopping I just slip money and my debit card in my pocket and go.
I understand your grief, NY...a good old wallet is much like an old friend. It's hard to give them up when they can no longer carry on.
