If you wanted to grow Red Norland potatoes in a bag, what size bag would u use if these were your choices - 1, 2, 3, or 5 gallon bags?

5-gallon. I did 5-gallon bucket and 15? gallon bags last year.

Edit: Actually, I'll amend that...

It depends on the circumference (diameter? whatever) and depth of the bag [and how many potatoes]. I was assuming the dimensions of the brand I was using.

The smaller the better because I want to be able to move them around. How many plants per 5 gallon bags would you plant? Thanks for your input! 😊

I suck at bagged potatoes. Any tips? Last year they flat out didn't grow, but I have potatoes sprouting like weeds out of every garden bed, so I'm wondering if its the bag itself.

I just can't remember, darn it. For some reason I'm thinking that I only planted one in each bucket.

I should mention that our potatoes failed miserably. Although we did get potatoes, they were all small to miniscule in size (we used 3 5-gallon buckets, 2 large bags, and 2 horse troughs). I've no idea what went wrong. Same thing happened last year in the garden bed -- no size to them at all. Same thing happened to my daughter this year in her garden and we cannot figure out why (we've grown potatoes successfully before). This was the first time that I tried them in buckets though.

Thanks Meadow for the information! 😊

Take a look at this thread, Dahlia.

@the1honeycomb had quite a potato gardening technique. She grew them in the ground the following year and was disappointed.

Thank you! I think I might even sew my own bags!
