My impression was that Jokr had observed the bees on the flowers before they went to seed, and had taken the picture recently of the resulting seed heads.
But :hu...
My 1st impression too. I thought I was asking that but must have worded it wrong :( So..... @jokr ….what color flowers did it have?

The day I took the picture is the first time I found this plant. The land was recently thinned (pine trees) and I was wandering around where it was cut (a couple months prior).

Pretty sure it is not in the milkweed family. The fluff looks like a flower gone to seed. But then could emerge like that! Maybe your county extension office could quickly name it for you ;) I do not see where bees would even find pollen in there! AND :welcome from a beekeepers wife in Eastern IA.
Thanks for the county extension office suggestion. It might be hard to make it to them (they probably work the same hours as I do), but I'm going to try. Thanks!
