If you have to go without power, I hope Mother Nature cooperates and keeps it cool for you. Hurricane Rita swept through here (3 weeks after the infamous hurricane Katrina wiped out 'Nawlins) and most of Houston evacuated in blind panic. A 2 hour trip took 28 hours and they ran out of gas in our town. No gas. No power. No grocery stores open. No Wal Mart. Nada. BUT we had 100 +++ degrees to add to the misery! :weee And BIG swamp skeeters that flew in the open doors and windows to feast on us! :celebrate And we had a lot of unhappy folks that realized their homes were safe and sound cause that bad 'ol hurricane went around Houston, now here they were stuck in a little Podunk town in the middle of nowhere. They went home, but it was weeks before we got power back on.

All that rain........are you sure you don't want to farm crawfish?

i bet that that was a nightmare baymule.

the last bad storm was back in 2005 during the winter we had no power for 3 days. 1" of ice covered everything
like you said bay no gas, no power, no nothing. we drove a hour to find a store, once in we saw 2 old ladys fighting over a loaf of bread nobody won that bag tore open.....

would love a hot shower....

while on the way home this morning the road crews were busy
Removing the down trees, everyone cleaning up their yards.
Once home got out the turkey cooker out set a stock pot full water,
Got it nice and hot and took a quickie bath, of course the power came
On right after that so we have power but no Internet and tw cable has
no idea how long that will be. But otherwise everything is back to normal around here.

it was my own fault for not keeping up on the weather, usually we keep 10 gallons of water in the pantry at all times, being all electric here.
now seriously thinking about getting a small generator, but big enough to run the fridge and well.

my dh just got back from Israel. he said everyone is required to have their water heater on their roof & required to use solar to heat it. i want dh & i to learn how to build solar panels we can use when power is out for heating, maybe refrigerating, & some lights. they're too expensive to buy.
