I belong to a daylily forum called Mydaylily. I tried to post a blossom and got a malicious hacker warning. and I seem to now be blocked from the whole website. I can barely run a computer for simple mundane tasks much less hack anything. What to do?????
There must have been something about the file you were uploading that appeared to be (or was) infected. Can you run a virus scan on that particular file? How extreme that they would immediately kick you entirely off the website... Is there any way to contact the administrator and get it straightened out?

Also check the website of the maker of your virus protection software to see if they offer an option to do an online virus scan. Here is one from Norton (symantec.com). It's been ten years ago that I had to remove a virus from my mom's computer and I found it with their online scan and at that time they also offered the fix for free too.

If nothing shows up after scanning the file from your computer, be sure you do the online scan. Some viruses will make a point to go in an disable your anti-virus software. I am a pc user and don't have much experience with Macs, but the virus protection software should work similarly.

Good luck!

ETA: Cat, I installed and ran the free one I mentioned in the link on my computer. It did do the scan for free, but the fix is not free anymore appearently. Also, the one I used 10 years ago was done completely online without having to install anything. Not sure if anything like that exists anymore. :P

catJac, I went to mydaylily.com. Didn't sign in, but looked at the page, and did not click anything.

That site appears to me to have a lot of spam in the postings, in the form of what look like "tag" words. Since I'd never been to it before, I don't know how long that's been the case. The spam messages are from a user there called georgiarop in a topic that is titled with japanese letters.

My very humble guess might be at least from what I see, that the moderators may be having a hard time being able to get rid of spammers, and might have inadvertantly, with some automatic program, determined that your photo download was spam.

Perhaps if someone could email the owners or moderators to let them know you were accidentally treated as spam by mistake, they may be able to fix it for you? I am certain you would be one of the important and good members there and they enjoy your important contributions.

The spam messages I'm looking at in another tab, are dated at 53 minutes ago, 51, 50, and 49 minutes ago, as of the time i loaded the page about 10 minutes ago, not refreshed.

That is a possibility too. Good call, Marshall.

Good advice as always Marshall. I was actually using the site for the first time and did get an auto spam message. There is a spot to click if you think it is an error and they gave an incomplete e-mail address so I was unable to contact them I think my ip address is blocked. I received an email answer to a question I posted. I tried to return a message and I was blocked out of the sender's e-mail. There are a good informative site so I hate to be blacklisted. Poor computer almost illiterate me. At the moment I am way too lazy to figure it out. I'll just blab away at this site.

try using a proxy server!

http://www.publicproxy.org

there is a window in it to type your forum address into.

you should be able to get your site if it is an ip block. It'll be slower and clunkier, but functional.

use it to email your moderators and to explain to your friends you're working on the problem

there are hundreds of other proxy servers if that one does not work.

if it is an ip block that the moderators can't fix, luckily these little acer chromebooks only cost 220 bucks, plus you can have pro geeks install or reinstall your operating system, but im not sure if a reinstall fixes an ip block. a new laptop did for me.

I still have the old one and it still works. it has a much better photo editor than this nice little cheapy. technically half as fast, but actually just as fast, these new ones are better than my 2007 model, just fewer bells and whistles, and smaller monitor

First having worked in both the PC and Mac sides of the industry I can assure you that Mac's can and do get viruses. Yes, Windows based PC's get most of them, but that's just a matter of numbers:

Microsoft OS - 92%
Mac OS - 5%
Others, Linux et. al. - 3%

Let's say your and evil doer bent on destroying the world with a virus. Which OS would you target?

Marshal's idea is good, but let's take it one step farther. First create a new email address. (I use GMail for the purpose). Next, go to the website using a proxy server. Create a new user account with a different user name and you new email address. After that you won't need the proxy server to log in. :)
