BobM, actually sounds like hackers were using your computer to send out spam email with highly loaded email, videos and stuff. They can do that these days, but usually it's just with text email that is low on the kilobytes so you don't even notice. Once your ip address shifts you are off it, and things are back to normal...for awhile, then they find it again and repeat the process.

That happened to my boss, but not so bad. He had to make new email addresses, could not even get to his old email, so had to call them on the phone and do a rigamarroll to get his old email address closed. He did find that it was being done remotely from Vietnam.

Course, I don't know if that's what happened to you. Might want to look around your email settings to see if any of your addresses were used to open other new email addresses as linked sites. For example, a new lycos account opened using a yahoo email as the confirm, that kind of thing.

They do not usually do it in a way that noticeably slows you down.

Oh hooray!

I had such a terrible attack with multiple viruses on my desk top, I had to buy a laptop to actually work because my desk top is old and slower then sorghum syrup!

I spent about 12 hours cleaning, clearing and recovering that desk top. Its protected and fine now. The virus attack disarmed my AVG protection and I had to manage to get around the worst virus to get online and download a new virus protection program, remove the infected AVG and make sure there was no way for the virus to redownload via my IP.

That makes for a LOT of work if you know what you're doing. Though I did, it really sucked up my time, but I needed to save files...ect. Next time, I'll just pay the Geek Squad. :th
