sort of. mine run back and forth in front of the nest boxes like they just can't make up their minds which one looks the most comfy. when the girls get older it tends to happen a lot less.

Weird. I have never gotten anything but perfect eggs. Small at first. Occasionally no yolk.

Their bodies are responding to their environment, MontyJ. Since the Sexlinks all have about the same genetics, their responses should also be about the same.

Besides the genetics, it is the amount of daylight, the nutrients in their diet, etc. The hormones begin to flow.

Out pops an egg. Their eggs will be really . . . what was the word (?) . . . ah yes, "hinky." There won't be much consistency to the eggs at first. Usually, they will be small but not always.

Looks like we have three layers now. Thursday morning I found an egg with a very paper thin shell (fortunately not broken), then later in the morning we found the chickens fighting over another egg that had what seemed like a tough leathery skin??? Then, even later in the morning we found the now daily small regular egg. If the two newbies follow suit, we should get a couple of "normal" eggs from them today.

Glad you are about to be getting eggs! They are so much better than store bought... I presume you are feeding layer pellets? I wonder if they are getting enough calcium? Do you have some oyster shell available?

Yes they have oyster shells and layer feed now. I've been watching to see if I get any more today besides one. So far nothing.

I didn't get any eggs yesterday. Nutmeg has been laying her eggs in the bedding bag :/ I have put her in the nest boxes trying to get her to lay in there, no luck yet. I have two other chickens that laid eggs Friday morning, but haven't gotten anything from them yet :/ . I have one chicken that's walking around "looking for something" but nothing from her yet. (goldilox) I just keep looking for eggs every few hours. Honestly, I cant wait to get eggs. The 4 eggs I got from Nutmeg were nice little ones :thumbsup . They even had little yolks in them. My brother in law said sometimes they don't have yolks when they first start laying.

Dewdrops, have you put a golf ball in the nest box? That works for lots of folks. The chicken just HAS to lay her egg where another one is already. Somehow, a golf ball looks like an egg to them.
