So far I am still making my list from the seed magazines. By the looks of my list I should be able to plant 10 gardens the size of ours LOL. I am going to have to revise it before I order, or i will have way to much seed.

I spent $18 so far,but will get $1 packs at the store once they are out.Might spend another $20 getting seedlings at the county. Then I spend $10 on tomato and pepper plants.

Well we ordered our seed today, got a good deal I think! Gurney sent an email stating all of their heirloom seeds were 50% off so we ordered all of our seeds. We spent $55 including shipping, plus 25 strawberry plants so we were happy with it. We still need to get seed potatos and onion sets though.

At this time of year, I seem to be caught somewhere between a reckless romp :tools thru the seed catalogs and my imaginary garden and the cold, hard reality of doing my taxes :(. Since I file a form F (farm income) there are some cold, hard numbers to work with :/.

For those of you who aren't familiar with what form F asks: seeds and plants; chemicals; fertilizers and lime; feed; etc., etc. all need to be accounted for .

There are some plants left to order so I don't have a complete picture on what I will be writing down for line #28 this time next year. It looks like I won't be hitting 2009's record.
:ep

This year should top 2008 and 2010's low number was something of an accident, I am sorry to say. There was just a lot of seed in the basement that spring . . . might have accounted for my overly buoyant mood during seed-starting 12 months ago :p.

With numbers dating back a few years and understanding the reality of seed stores on basement shelves, I can crunch seed expenses a little for recent years: I spend between 2.5 and 4.5 on each square foot of the garden !

SSooooo, how's that :hu?

Wow steve, That sounds like you are keeping close tabs on your costs. 2.5 cents seems very inexpensive also. Hopefully i can start saving seed also to use in the future.

I ended up placing my order with rareseeds.com to the tune of $50 and I bought some supplies and seeds for about $12 at Walmart. But I still need to order seed potatoes.

I went over budget, not by much... ended up spending $22 with shipping. I was kinda proud. I blew myself away by trying new veggies I don't even enjoy eating.

After ordering the $54. Worth of seeds I have been to the garden center and spent another $20. That is not including the things I bought for seed starting. Hopefully we will have enough success to preserve some food and save seed for next year.
