Ice cube is a great idea. You can drill a hole, with the proper drill and a piece of tape on the glass, drilling through the tape. Those plants can get very wet, than allowed to dry, dry, but before that they can be wet again.

They, some of that family, live here in the mountains. During the summer, they in some locations, dry to nothing and spring back when watered, growing up in between rocks, making a living where nothing else could.

I water a similar plant once or twice a winter and put it outside for the summer. My daughter tied an orchid to one of her palms- the darn thing was just about dead. Came right back! The roots grab right on to the trunk. She was able to remove the tie in short order. Very cool!
