Yeah, when I was in the Army, I quickly noticed a lot of the sargeants would talk about what they had done. What they had done was tell someone else to do it. They were able to accomplish a lot of hard work without breaking a sweat. In their defense, that is what they were supposed to do. Their job was to supervise. They would get in trouble if their hands got dirty. But I thought it was funny the way they talked about what they had done.

It sounds like Skeeeter9 has an opportunity but she is the one in a position to determine that. For her sake, I wish her luck. I'm just trying to have a little fun with it.

This is exactly how I got caught up in gardening. One day my wife says "maybe WE should grow some stuff"
She helped figure out where to "grow some stuff" and I'VE been doing it ever since!!!!

You know, my husband spits that stuff out too! He'll even go out and start building new beds, tilling and hauling dirt. When the planting starts he disappears and isn't heard from again until Winter!!!!

this all sounds VERY familiar! dh is starting to rethink a lot of things lately that i've mentioned for years since we've been married! he knows how to do his own canning since he makes his own habanero hot pepper jelly ( i can't go into the kitchen when he makes that stuff-makes me run crying when i just smell it cooking!) last year i was dealing with a lot of family issues that just took the gardening bug out of me and he didn't help me one bit after saying he would.

dh has been in and out of work for the past couple of years to a point where he is finally thinking it is really worth it to grow our own food for the cost of taxes and mortgage on the property. the costs at the grocery stores have been jumping so much he's nearly passed out at the checkout from the cost of his junk food! when i don't buy that stuff and go for more healthy stuff the bill has been cheaper but still higher than i've paid in the past. he's realized that all the stuff i've done in the garden each year has a benefit of lowering our food bills and tastes sooo much better when it is fresh from the garden!

:thumbsup good for him to realize these things!!! And, prices at the store have been horrendous...I have to rethink several things on my list...to either no longer purchase, or change how I use them.

So I'm sitting in my rocking chair working on crocheting a scarf for one of my daughters, and my husband pipes up with "Ya know, we could plant a much bigger garden this year. It would be nice to grow enough to have some tomatoes and other things to can." Huh? Who is this man, and where is my husband? It caught me off guard and I didn't answer right away, so this alien spoke again, "We need to get the tractor fixed so we can terrace that area out in the old horse pen you were talking about last year." Ok, now I know this really isn't my husband. As if this isn't disconcerting enough, he says that he wants to help me with the garden this year! What in the world is going on here???!!!!:hide
It's a trap!!!!!!! My husband told me that this past year, the "help" he was talking about was eating!!!!!

He did build a few fences for me, but when it came to actual weeding or planting or almost anything else it was always "too hot" or he was "to tired" or pleading ingorance, "I don't know how to......"

My DH pulled that with the chickens. His idea, he asked me what kinds and how many...duh...I don't diddly squat about chickens. Anyhoo...we got them all home and growing...now, he calls them mine. He'll say...."You want me to go feed "your" chickens?" :ep :th

Funny how so many of us have the same types of experiences with our "better halves".

History tells me that the "help" I will be getting won't amount to much, but somehow, even after almost 30 years of marriage, I still hope for the best when he says "we". I really shouldn't complain because for the past few weeks dh has been helping a lot in the kitchen - even going so far as to actually cook full meals. Very amazing! Anyway, time will tell on the help in the garden thing. I will foolishly give him the benefit of the doubt, at least for now! That way I can dream of a big beautiful garden. . . .

I have to smile after reading every body's responses! That's the way it works around here too. He means well, and I really think at the time he offers that he's serious, but when reality hits, he always finds something "important" to do.
Haha, but it's okay because I secretly like working alone, and it makes him think I'm not a nag ;) .

And he cheerfully builds corrals and shelters and coops for my animals, so I'm happy.
