One thing a lot of us don't consider when trying to clean up our eating habits is condiments and seasonings. Have you checked out the ranch dressing label lately? The main ingredient is soybean oil. There is a recipe for ranch dressing mix on the net. It makes a dry mix that you add buttermilk to as you need it.

Ketchup, of course, is a big source of corn syrup. But you can get it without, now, if you read the label.

Peanut butter has changed, too. More soybean oil. I tried baking cookies using that new creamy Jif, and they were so "short" they just fell apart.

Cooking is much more of a challenge for me now than it was 10 years ago, when I didn't bat an eye using Hamburger Helper or Velveeta. They say "ignorance is bliss." :/

I really am saddened by the whole peanut butter cups thing. But glad to see that some of you noticed too and it's not just me.

I actually used to be a hard core fan of Bryers Ice Cream. (I LOVE ice cream!!!) BUT THEN...They changed the recipe! I actually wrote them a letter and explained to them that they went from "the best store bought ice cream to nasty!" they sent me a letter back and explained that not "all" of their flavors had changed just the majority. It isn't even ice cream any more. It says on the carton something like, "dairy whip". :sick After I sent the very detailed letter explaining my dissapointment and reasons, they offered to send me some coupons. I politely DECLINED the offer and told them that they should save them for someone who might purchase their product again and that would not be me! Sooooo.....with that being said, I am very excited that so many of you like homemade ice cream and now I am going to have to find an ice cream maker! I wish I had the old hand crank that my Grandma used to have. :D

so lucky...You just ruinned may favorite salad dressing. Now I am going to have to start making my own. (Just kidding you! Thank you for enlightening me!)

Oh yeah, eggs, jelly, chicken and yogurt for sure! You guys are right on. :thumbsup

Smuckers natural (the one w/ oil on top) it only has peanuts and salt, it is the only peanut butter I will eat, I like the crunchy if I can't find it I don't eat peanut butter until I can. I actually have to buy 2 types of peanut butter I won't eat my husbands and he won't eat mine.

Nothing beats homemade ice cream!
Here is a simple recipe for ranch dressing:

● 1/4 cup dry buttermilk powder
● 2 tbsp. dried minced onion
● 2 tbsp. dried parsley
● 1 tbsp. dried chives
● 1/4 tsp. salt, or to taste
● 1 tsp. garlic powder
● 1 tsp. dried celery flakes
● 1/2 tsp. white pepper
● 1/4 tsp. paprika
● 1/4 tsp. dried dill weed

1. Mix the buttermilk powder, dried onion, parsley, chives, salt, garlic powder, dried celery flakes, white pepper, paprika, and dill together, and store in a cool, dry place. For a finer texture, place ingredients in a blender and pulse several times.

To prepare the mix as salad dressing, whisk together in a mixing bowl with 2 cups of mayonnaise and 2 cups of milk until smooth.

Ranch Dressing I used 1/4 c. nonfat plain yogurt, 1/4 c. light Mayo and 1/4 c. skim milk. Mix with 2 T of the dry mix. Store in the fridge.

I would nix the buttermilk powder and use real buttermilk, but then, I have a cow :plbb

Lithouse and Golden Harvest both have an organic ranch. Check the label first on Litehouse. They put it out in both organic and non organic versions.

I'd rather have home made bread over store bought also.... MontyJ makes awesome homemade bread. Now if I had a good mixer like a kitchen aid, I would make a bunch and freeze it.

I need to correct myself. Jif natural creamy peanut "spread" has palm oil in it, not soybean oil. I don't know much about palm oil, but the old school of thought says it is bad for you. Of course, the old school of thought says coconut oil is bad for you, so I am not gonna judge.

BTW, anybody know where to get buttermilk powder?

And Litehouse is made in the land of milk and honey, just up the road from me in Sandpoint! So you know it's good!
