Dosed off in the Lazy-boy after getting up at about the usual time . . .

Gosh, I can't believe it is already 5am! It's dark outside!!

Living so far north, nearly 48 north, there are dramatic differences between day length throughout the year. We have already lost 90 minutes of sunlight - the year is winding down!

As much as I dislike the shorter days I like the heat of summer more! Spring and fall are more to my liking :)
P.S. you are an early bird. I am not up until 5:30 a.m. Now I feel lazy! ;)

I don't like the shorter days either, but I will be SO glad to get rid of this summer heat. We've had record breaking temps the last two months - I'll welcome our winter this year without complaints!

I am usually happy to do some serious winding down in November each year but we had a very cool start to the growing season. The hottest week of the year, on average, has just passed. It may have skidded into the 40's this morning! I'm not sure what we are going to think about this summer after all is said and done . . .

Back when I was commuting a fair number of miles, I used to pass this little pickup, going the opposite way on a country road. At 45mph, morning after morning, we'd pass each other . . . It would be 4:30am during June & July -- and he would never have his headlights on!

It feels to me, despite the early morning darkness and cool air, that we will have another late summer like last year. Another 2 months of good growin' would sure be appreciated!

Steve :)

whose lateness getting out of that chair was rewarded with huckleberry pancakes by later-rising DW :p

Here on the 48th parallel, we have lost over 2 hours of summer sunlight!

On June 21st, the sun rose at 4:51am and set at 8:51pm.

Yesterday, the sun rose at 5:54am and set at 7:50pm.

There are only limited guarantees that the sun will rise today.

I'm already disappointed in the loss of light, the shorter the days the more I feel like dragging to bed earlier! :p

It went from sunrise 5:00am Sunset: 9:34pm 6/21

down to sunrise 5:40am sunset 8:55pm 6/22

By October I'll be in bed at 9pm! LOL

This time of year has always filled me with an odd melancholy, like when you know a loved one will be leaving soon and you don't want to say goodbye. :(

There is the regret of not having filled the days with more work and more fun and more relaxing in the garden and evenings around the firepit watching the stars and camping and walking up the middle of Pack river and having friends over and projects not finished...
...sigh...

Winter does have it's advantages though.... hang on... I've almost thought of one....

It was too dark to work at 8:30 last night. Yuck! It is coming! Let me know when you think of something, thistle!
