I must have a good spam protection program through my internet supplier as I don't get very many spams mailings at all, maybe 2-6 per day in my spam folder, and seldom any spam in my e-mail.
I used to get fax calls on my cell phone. It drove me nuts. I finally tracked the number to a spam company in Canada. I found their long distance carrier (MCI) and called them complaining. I got a call back from their office in Washington DC and I lowered the boom on them. The spammer was breaking US law, thus they were in Canada. I accused the long distance carrier of aiding and abetting a felony and was satisfied with their freaked out response, stuttering and denying. I threatened to call the FCC on them and file felony charges. For some reason, after that those calls stopped.
In a recent IRS audit ... a couple claimed a loss of over $2 million through fraud. The wife's sister , a widow was married to a person from the Middle East who died over 5 years ago. She got an e-mail from a " lawyer" who said that the man that died left a very sizable estate of well over 7 figures and to receive the proceeds of the estate, she had to pay several back taxes. She didn't have any money to speak of since her husband died. So she asked her sister and her husband to pay the taxes. They did, and the "lawyer " then said there were fees to pay, again they paid it. More fees, taxes, etc. followed for 5 years untill they realized that this was an ELABORATE scam.
I got a message left on the phone that I won $750,000 and a Mercedes. I deleted the message, but I am sure they will call back or at least park the Mercedes in the driveway.
I finally figured out how to block calls on my cell phone. So yesterday I blocked three numbers that have been repeatedly calling, trying to sell a walk-in tub and other unwanted stuff. One of them, I saw, called after that. The call shows up in the history, but the phone doesn't ring.
