Pretty good, Nyboy. He still doesn't take the initiative in her care, but does seem to have bonded with her. When he does take her for a walk, she rewards him by lying under his computer desk or even getting in his desk chair to sleep. (not with the cone on, of course)
I will call Petco today.

So I bought an inflatable collar today, $35 for a large, since Penny has a 15 inch neck. Blew it up and put it on her. It seemed too big. It took about a minute for her to pull it over her head. Drat. I took it back and exchanged it for a medium, for $30. Blew it up and put it on her. It seemed too small, more like Chihuahua sized. It took about 5 minutes for her to figure out she could lick her butt with it on. Drat Drat!!
We are back to the cone of shame. The noisy, clumsy, shin-scraping cone of shame. Only 5 more days.....

I'm wondering....since she can't reach that area anyway due to her weight, can she go without the cone?

Oops, cross posted..apparently she CAN reach her butt. Here's a thought...how about fashioning a really big cone and placing it around her waste, like a big, stiff skirt. Be more streamlined while walking through the house but she won't be able to reach that butt...still can go potty and pee though. Just tossing out ideas here...

Maybe a diaper instead of a cone?

I was also thinking diaper, with maybe some Bitter apple sprayed on it to keep her from messing with it. On the other hand, you could just deal with what you have.... How slowly can 5 days go? It does get old running to the store for things that may or may not work.

You know, Penny is adjusting to it better than I am. Once I am awakened by plastic scraping against the wall, I can't get back to sleep. Maybe I could just go to a motel tonight, to get a night's sleep. :\

LOL! I've been thinking the same thing. I've got a dog getting over a BAD gut issue and he's had me jumping up every two hours to run him to the back door for just under 5 weeks!!! I'm usually cleaning the spot where he didn't quite make it while he's out doing his business and sniffing the entire yard in case something important happened in the last 2 hrs. We're finally starting to get back to sleeping almost all night but I've been considering taking off one morning to get a room and sleep till bedtime.
I like the plastic tutu idea @thistlebloom !
@so lucky , you're down to just a couple more days... but what about when the cone comes off.. will she be able to reach it again?? Or will getting the glands expresses do the trick?

Cane, I am shuddering at the thought of gut issues that necessitate you cleaning spots where he didn't make it out in time! Geeze, what could have caused those kind of gut issues? Maybe he needs to eat some sour kraut.
The tutu idea is intriguing. I wonder if they make cones that big. I can visualize it not staying in place, though, creeping up around her chest. I think I may sleep downstairs in the spare bed room tonight. It's kind of like a tomb down there. She can't get down the stairs with the cone on.

Ah, the bliss of having outdoor dogs! :love They can poop anytime they want without my having to escort them. I can go years without ever even having to SEE dog poop, nor smell it.

Don't envy you guys with that duty... :sick
