Funny that you should say that. For the last few years I have been telling my husband I needed another horse to keep Rascal company and one that I can ride .He just kept saying not to get another horse. I am strong and healthy but I am at an age that could change. AS soon as my boy was gone he started talking about another one. My daughter and husband built a house way back behind our horse field. They have 3 1/2 year old twins. She never expressed an interest in getting a horse, but did say he kept the coyotes away. If I had back up help for the future I would consider one. But we also have been talking about a beef cow. My Son in laws Dad is a beef farmer in the south, so I think he would love to give it a try. For now I plan to go to a stable and ride one of their old plugs.I'm so sorry. There is something special about the relationships we have with horses. Maybe it has something to do with how long they can be with us. My last old girl was in her 30s too when she passed.
Be careful ... if your pastures are empty too long... you might find yourself eventually filling them with a lovely backyard dairy cow
